Welcome back!

The Summer Term got off to an exciting start, with our Main School participating in an "Olympic Torch Relay" from the top of Totternhoe Knolls. One of the oldest children carried our Eaton Bray Academy Olympic Torch from the summit, to a point where it passed to younger children, culminating with Hedgehogs carrying it into the playground. Week Ending 23rd March 2012

The Pre-School has been an even more exciting place to be this week, with the opening of "The Tunnel"... Is this a first for a Pre-School we wonder? The most difficult decision was who should crawl through first! The only problem that arose was when some children liked it so much, they were a little reluctant to come out the other end...

Children were arriving at School this week with some peculiar items - giant wooden sculptures, tinfoil statues and plants made out of paper - all very exciting re-cycleable homework.

Friday was a special day for thinking of others. The children came to school with an animal, of the soft toy variety you will be pleased to hear! We supported "Bring a Bear to show you Care" for Action Medical Research. The children also had to research their animal and tell everyone about it. Then the school gates were closed as we saw how many laps of the school grounds the children could manage for Sports Relief.

Next week is Open Evening on Monday for parents, and a treat for the children on Wednesday evening with an after school Spring Disco.

Week Ending 16th March 2012

Monday was exciting for Squirrels, as a visiting sports coach introduced them to tennis techniques and... even better... it was in the sunshine!

Children from EB Lions Football Cub also practice on our field once a week, weather permitting.

This week, children have been busily making cards for a very special person... (Hopefully all will be revealed on Sunday!)

Also in the sunshine, Otters had a lovely time pond dipping on Thursday afternoon.

The Pre-School children will soon have another outdoor play item... a long tunnel to travel through, or even hide in! Watch this space for a photo of the finished area. Hamsters have been busy learning about recycling this week, and have been having lots of fun sorting out plastic bottles, cardboard, paper and fruit peelings!

On Friday 23rd March, it is "Bring An Animal Day," when children may take their favourite animal (not real!) to School, along with £1. On the same day, we are encouraging children to make laps of the School, and then take home a sponsor form, to raise funds for Sports Relief.

Next term, our topic is "The Olympics," and plans are well under way to start off the theme, with an Eaton Bray Olympic Run, with our Olympic Torch. More details nearer the time!

Also planned are visits to Wardown Park Museum, which will be set up as a Greek Olympic Games from the past.

If anyone knows of a sports person or someone with Olympic connections, past or present, who would be willing to come along to School to share their talents, please let us know.

Week Ending 9th March 2012

The week ended with a day of "African Drumming." There was a whole School assembly, followed by exciting work shops for each class throughout the day. The children were acting like professionals by the end of the visit!

Badgers had two visitors mid week, who talked about their evacuee experience in World War II, and shared artefacts.

Rabbits had a Powerpoint presentation by a parent who had completed a trek up Kilimanjaro, and were all kindly treated to gifts.

Squirrels have been investigating changes in materials, causing the first aiders to wonder why there were strange items in the freezer, along with the ice packs... Squirrels, were of course, discovering how materials change their properties when frozen.

Otters have been comparing and contrasting their present day habitats with those of prehistoric dinosaurs.

Hedgehogs and Hamsters have had lots of fun on the new climbing frame, magic mirrors and blackboards. In case any of you have noticed a "Teletubbies" hill, which is now fenced off, watch the space, and all will be revealed, in a short time!

Week Ending 2nd March 2012

Monday was our day for celebrating World Book Day. Our theme was "Around the World," and the children and staff dressed in costumes from many countries, and all looked splendid. Look out for pictures in the local press!

On Tuesday, Sharing Assembly was well attended and many children celebrated their achievements academically, creatively and socially.

Squirrels and Otters had a talk about Dubai, from one of our parents, who kindly gave some of her time to talk to the children, and also provided a Power Point presentation.

Our allotment is prepared and ready for spring planting, and the potatoes are chitting in our new portable greenhouse.

Hamsters have a new climbing frame, and are happily seeing the World from new heights. A new fence is in the process of being built by the pre-school building. Hopefully this will eliminate any possibility of children running on the grass, away from their carers. The pre-school also has new mirrors and blackboards for added playground fun!

Week Ending 24th February 2012

WELCOME BACK!

Hedgehogs and Squirrels have already moved to a different climate... the Rainforest Zone. Look out for a range of species, from jumping tree frogs, to slumbering sloths.

Otters have been thinking of food... (again!!) and have been considering original pancake fillings, with up to nine imaginative fillings.

Rabbits have been investigating our School environment, and locating re-cycling and "Green Team" areas.

Badgers have been focusing on the sense of sound... did a siren just go off...?! Yes, the topic is World War II: The Blitz.

On Thursday evening, some staff visited Whipsnade Zoo, for a series of workshops. This is linked to our sponsorship of zoo animals, and our future "Bring an Animal" Day. More information later.
