Week Ending 12th January 2016

We have a wonderful new piece of artwork in the School Hall!  Our Cezanne inspired collaborative display has been completed, and looks magnificent.  Do come in and have a look if you get the chance - every child in the Main School has contributed, by drawing or painting a pear, and there are so many different styles and interpretations - we are sure you will be impressed!

On Tuesday, after school, a team of Year 5 and 6 boys and girls took part in a tag rugby tournament at All Saints Academy in Dunstable.  They played well and were the winners in their group!  The children will all receive a medal in due course.

In the evening, there was a meeting for parents, to share information about our recent Ofsted Inspection.  We would like to thank everyone who attended - your support is so greatly appreciated as we move forward as a school.

We have implemented a few changes for 2017, and will be bringing in some new initiatives and ideas.  The biggest change perhaps is our new style "Choices", which has been renamed "Golden Time."  Golden Time on a Friday afternoon will be an opportunity for the curriculum to be explored in more practical ways - problem solving, investigation and enquiry.

An example of the kind of work that Golden Time will focus on is the "Maths in Action" activity that Year 6 children enjoyed on Wednesday.  They took trundle wheels out onto the (rather muddy) school field to measure distances, recording their findings as they went.  Year 5 children, meanwhile used force meters to investigate the weight and resistance of various items in the classroom.

Our value for this half term is Hope, and on Thursday, Squirrels Class presented an inspiring assembly on this subject.  They shared with the rest of the children their hopes for the year, their hopes for the School, and their hopes for the World.  Everyone then joined in with a rousing and hopeful song!  At lunchtime, Squirrels hosted "Hope Club," where children came along to write down their personal hopes.  These will be used to create a display in the Hall.

Our hopes for the coming week include a peaceful and happy school, with lots of excellent work being produced!  We also hope that there will not be too much disruption due to wintry weather...
