Week Ending 9th September 2016

Welcome back to school!  We hope everyone had a wonderful summer holiday.

Our first week back has seen some new faces in both Pre-School and Main School, and we welcome the families of all our new children.  Mrs Matthews and the Hedgehogs team have been busy carrying out home visits this week, in order to get to know the children starting full-time in Reception, before their first day on Friday.  They all seem very pleased to be here, and look very proud to now be part of the Main School.

Our new Head Boys and Girls have been chosen, and School Councillors for 2016/17 have been elected.  Watch this space for photos!

Everyone had fun this week creating a vibrant colourful piece of collaborative artwork for the hall display board, based on the work of Jackson Pollack.  The children learnt all about this artist and found out about his famous "drip" painting style, before taking it in turns to use this exciting but messy technique to create their own piece of abstract art!

On Friday, our Year 6 Class presented an Assembly to the rest of the school, focusing on our "Value for Life" for this half term, which is Responsibility.  They talked about areas where it is important to take responsibility - looking after a pet, helping out at home, working hard at school and so on, as well as explaining that it is sometimes necessary to own up to mistakes when things go wrong.

As the oldest children in the school, we are sure that Deer Class will prove themselves to be a responsible and very hard working group of children this year!

On Friday afternoon, Deer Class had the opportunity to demonstrate their responsible attitude, when they were asked to work with younger children in Squirrels Class, and were given the tasks of tidying up the school allotment, and picking up any litter around the school grounds.  Everything now looks lovely and tidy ready for our Family Fun Day on Sunday!

We are keeping our fingers crossed for a dry and sunny day on Sunday, when the school will be the place to be for all sorts of family fun!  We hope to see lots of you here, and we're sure that come rain or shine, everyone will have an enjoyable time (but the forecast is looking good at the moment...)
