Week Ending 20th March 2015

We hope all the Mums out there liked their Mother's Day gifts and cards!  The children took great care and pride making them.  Some Mums came in for Mother's Day tea too...

Everyone is now busy making Easter items, either to decorate rooms, or for families and friends.  It is feeling more like Spring now and flowers are blooming around the School, making everything look cheerful.  Our new willow plants and outside willow classroom are beginning to thrive, and buds are beginning to appear.

Tuesday was an exciting day for Key Stage 1 children, as they had an Easter disco after school.  They enjoyed hot dogs and ice cream, and an Easter Egg Hunt.  On Thursday, it was the turn of the older children to have an after school treat - they enjoyed a Games Night, with bingo, a beetle drive, and a delicious buffet!

Wednesday was another very special day, as it was EBA Science Day!  Various experiments took place, with children making putty, recreating rockets, and learning about chromatography.

Following on nicely from our Science Day, on Friday everyone had fun eclipse spotting.  The clouds broke just enough for us to view the partial solar eclipse through our special eclipse glasses.  It was very exciting, and something we hope that the children lucky enough to have seen it will always remember.

A quieter week than last week, when our Academy was buzzing with world-wide international activities!

Back to Eaton Bray...

Everyone is working extremely hard (adults and children) in both core and foundation subjects, with new topics covered on a daily basis.

Foxes and Deer Class have been producing police reports in Literacy, and investigating parachutes and air resistance in Science.
Badgers have continued their work on Egypt, and have been doing computer programming in "Scratch" programming language.
Rabbits have enjoyed Forest School this week, and have been doing some interesting number investigations.
Squirrels have been gardeners and have planted broad bean seeds.  They also cut a seed open and investigated the inside, magnifying it onto the whiteboard, in order to find out all about germination.
Otters have been investigating dinosaurs, and finding out their teeth.  They discovered that carnivorous (meat eating) dinosaurs had longer, sharper teeth than the herbivores.

With only two weeks until the Easter holidays, there is lots to be done... Easter cards, Easter gifts, end of term assessment reports and Parents' Evening consultations.  Next week we have E-Safety Day on Monday and Science Day on Wednesday, so plans are in place for lots of fun activities in the classroom, as well as the excitement of a HSA disco for younger children on Tuesday, and a Games Night for the older ones on Thursday!

Our EBA Enterprise Masterchef competition has come to an end, and the winners have been announced!  The winning team were "MNM" and the three lucky winners received a fantastic prize - a day at the Brasserie Blanc Cookery Club in Milton Keynes.  The children were taken to the restaurant by Mrs Hounslow and Mr Wallis, were kitted out in chef whites and hats, and given a cookery lesson by the restaurant staff, who showed them how to make a scrummy chocolate cake!

While the cake was cooking they enjoyed a cookery quiz, then were able to choose their lunch from the restaurant menu.  Being adventurous types, who have enjoyed tasting and experiencing a wide range of foods over the past weeks, they chose the charcuterie board for their main course, and snails for their starter!  Dessert was their indulgent chocolate cake - with double cream and sprinkles on top...

The children really had a lovely day, and agreed that "it was awesome!" Opinion was divided on the snails... but all three agreed that the best part was making and EATING the cake!  They all went home with an apron and chef's hat, and plenty of new cookery hints and tips.

The EBA Enterprise team will now be working on their new allotment - sowing, growing, producing and selling - so watch this space as the crops grow and the allotment flourishes...!

Week Ending 6th March 2015

A very busy, exciting and different week, for everyone at EBA!

On Saturday, we held a "Digging and Den Building Day."  This was an opportunity for children and parents to come and get their hands dirty - the younger ones enjoying a morning of building shelters, lighting a campfire and toasting marshmallows in the Forest School, while a small but industrious team of older children got to grips with digging over our new allotment area.  This is where EBA Enterprise children will grow their own produce for use in their cooking activities.  All the hard work was rewarded with a lunch of delicious burgers, cooked by our Kitchen Manager, Mr Wallis, followed by a very muddy game of football on the playground!  It really was a very enjoyable day - a big thank you to all the children and parents who took part.

It has been International Week this week, when classes had the wonderful opportunity to travel around the World!  Everyone had their own passport, and classes rotated round the rooms, which had been transformed into different parts of the World.

Whistle-stop tours were made of: Vietnam (Hedgehogs), where children dressed in traditional costume and learnt how to use chopsticks; Great Britain (Otters), where Parliament was recreated, and cream teas and a game of cricket were enjoyed; Brazil (Squirrels), where everyone experienced the Amazon Rainforest; China (Rabbits) where children did paper crafts and made pandas; Eygpt (Badgers), where there was a sarcophagus with a mummy inside; and Italy (Foxes), where children designed and made masks for a masquerade ball.

The week culminated with World Book Day, when children and adults dressed as a book character from around the World!

Welcome back!

Hope everyone had a lovely, relaxing holiday... now count down to EASTER!

Our children returned to school to find an exciting new addition to our school dining hall - a special "Party Room" where children who are celebrating a special event - such as their birthday or a school award - can sit to eat their dinner.  Decorated with the children's colourful self-portraits as well as bunting and table decorations, this lovely space will make lunch times extra special for everyone who gets the opportunity to enjoy it!

Foxes and Badgers children have continued their EBA Enterprise Masterchef sessions, and have cooked up some fantastic recipes!  Please enjoy some foodie photos...

The School was buzzing with excitement on Tuesday and Thursday, as KS2 children set off on the minibus to sports tournaments - Athletics on Tuesday and Rugby on Thursday.  The children looked very smart in their EBA track suits, and did very well... Eaton Bray Academy came first in the rugby tournament!

At the end of the School day on Thursday, there was a Valentine's Cake Sale in the Hall, organised by the HSA, where the children could purchase cakes... and of course eat them!  The sale was very busy, and made an amazing profit of more than £170 for school funds!  Thank you to all who donated cakes and everyone who came along to purchase them.

Earlier in the year, all classes planted daffodil bulbs, in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity.  Hedgehogs bulbs have already shot up, and are being well cared for.  This is a fund raising event, so watch this space to find out how much is collected by our School.

Our older children in Years 5 and 6 were delighted this week to be provided with a "Common Room" space where they can relax, chat and play games.  As a reward for good behaviour, during their lunch break, Foxes and Badgers children will be allowed to make use of Deer classroom, where there is a range of games and equipment that they have been trusted to use sensibly!

Next week is half term holiday week, so please enjoy the break, and your children!
