Week Ending 5th October 2012

The week started with Autumn gardening, when our flower beds and allotment were cleared... the last of the vegetables in their "blankety beds" were picked and taken to the kitchen, to be prepared for dinners.  As we know, fresh vegetables are SO tasty.

On Tuesday there was our first Sharing Assembly this term, when children shared their achievements.  The audience and children were particularly responsive and well behaved!

Hedgehogs and Hamsters have made celebration pictures for the hall.  Otters have made their own B.F.G. (Big Friendly Giant!)  Squirrels have been to Australia with Barnaby Bear, and made 3D models of popular tourist locations.

Rabbits have been investigating religious festivals, and now have an in depth knowledge of other cultures and beliefs.  Badgers were bakers, and had a "dough"lightful time, mixing the dough for bread rolls!

The highlight of this week was our visit to St Mary's Church, for our Harvest celebrations.  The vicar spoke to the children and joined in with jolly action songs!

 

Week Ending 28th September 2012

This week, on Monday evening, the AGM of the HSA was held in the School Hall.  Some faithful supporters formed a new committee, and are already planning the Christmas Fayre and treats for the children.  Thank you to those who came along.

Hamsters and Hedgehogs have enjoyed playing in the Autumn leaves, and have made a lovely art display.  Otters have been baking biscuits and learning how to follow recipe instruction.  Squirrels have been "spiralling" and made a window display, based on Bonfire Night, with circles, spirals and spheres.

Rabbits have been studying life in the Indian village of Chembakolli, and made a 3D model of the village, including fields of crops.  Badgers lanterns are lighting up the corridor, amidst a display of Chinese art.

On Friday, we celebrated the works of Roald Dahl, and everyone arrived dressed as a character from one of his many books, or from head to toe in yellow (his favourite colour!)

On Monday, we will be visiting St Mary's Church, to deliver out Harvest gifts, and think of others less fortunate than ourselves.

Week Ending 21st September 2012

Another week has flown by!

Plans are already under way for a wonderful Pantomime, by Key Stage 2 children.  Parts will soon be allocated, and rehearsals will soon be under way.  Younger children will all participate in a play, with a Nativity Tableau.

Now back to the present!

Hamsters have enjoyed playing outdoors in the last of the warm sunshine for this year.  Hedgehogs have gathered lavender from the grounds, and are busily making gift bags.  Otters have been celebrating the festival of Eid, by making lanterns and painting their hands with henna patterns.  Squirrels have been architects and builders, and have made 3D models of Special Places.  Rabbits have been turning themselves into Kandinsky artists, working on the theme, "Circles, Spirals and Spheres."  Last, but not least, Badgers. They have been finding out about Islamic patterns, making prayer mats, and writing and decorating their names in an Arabic style.

On Thursday evening, many parents came along to an informative evening based on English and Maths.  Hopefully there is now a clear picture of the structure for both core areas, from Reception, to year four, for those who attended.

Week Ending 14th September 2012

The first "whole" week at School, this term, has been very exciting and informative.  Our theme for the term is "Celebrations and Festivals", so, on Wednesday morning, coaches arrived to transport lots of us to Luton, where we were privileged to visit the Mosque.  On arrival, there was a warm welcome, then a talk and a tour.  The children (and adults) sat on magnificent red carpets, and listened and watched, in awe and wonder, as artefacts were examined.  Everyone had a gift of fruit on leaving, and an enjoyable time was had by all.  The subsequent picnic was fun, with yet more tasty treats!  There was even time to play in the park and whizz up and down slides, and swing happily!  Here is a selection of photos, so that the experience is more meaningful to all.

In the future, there are plans to discover facts about other religions, incorporating local visits, and visitors coming into school to share their customs and beliefs.  What better way to learn about other cultures!
