Week Ending 31st January 2014

Another very busy week has flown by. On Tuesday the hall was busy with guests for Sharing Assembly.  Hamsters showed some very impressive number matching. Hedgehogs had lots of "chilly" penguin paintings. Otters showed lovely writing, whilst Squirrels were proud of their electrical circuits, and literacy. Rabbits, Badgers and Foxes had certificates for Marathons and Bikeability.

On Thursday some KS2 children went on a theatre trip to London, to see a performance of "Wind in the Willows." There was added excitement, when due to a last minute change of departure time, tea was included!  Our talented chefs provided an array of sandwiches, sausage rolls and delicious cakes - the children were delighted to have a tea party together, before their coach ride.  On arrival in London, with time to spare, our wonderful coach driver took the children on a short impromptu sightseeing tour, before dropping them at the Duchess Theatre, where they enjoyed a fabulous show. Truly a trip to remember!

There will of course, be trips later on this term, for the other children.

Week Ending 24th January 2014

This has been a varied week, with lots of exciting things happening. The large hall board looks aesthetically pleasing with its colourful display of umbrellas, representing the theme "Singing In The Rain."

 On Monday, Year 4 and 5 children had the opportunity to show their bicycle handling skills, under supervision, in the playground, and then, Year 5s, out and about in Eaton Bray.  The visiting teacher was impressed by their listening skills, and the way they encouraged and inspired each other.

Wednesday morning got off to an exciting start with flashes and bangs, due to "Cosmic Chris", the scientist. He delivered a science session about air, and demonstrated how three objects could float in the air... with the help of a hair dryer. There were flashes of light that could be seen even with eyes tightly shut - the children felt "Cosmic Chris" was more like a magician than a scientist!

Week Ending 17th January 2014

How appropriate our "Water Water Everywhere" topic is, considering the amount of rain that has been falling in the area, in deluges.  Considering our choice was made in the last academic year, it is amazing how topical our theme has become!  Next time you visit our Hall, you may hear the song "Singing In The Rain" being sung, as an accompaniment to the umbrella art work on the walls.

Choices has returned, on Thursday afternoons, with an amazing range of subjects.  Golf had to be indoors, due to the weather, but was thoroughly enjoyed by the children.  Other indoor activities included craft with paper, Venetian masks, newsletter, a talk about bats, Storysacks, music, cooking, drama and textiles.  It is the largest range of topics that has been available since Choices began some time ago.

Further meetings have taken place about our trip to France, next year.  Updates will be given regularly!  The residential trip for this year is to Dell Farm and will take place in June.

Booster Clubs have re-started and the School Shop will be open from next week, so do allow children to bring along pocket money!

Week Ending 10th January 2014

Happy New Year to all!

The children have been busy making New Year's Resolutions, as we hope that 2014 will be the best year ever!  They have resolved that this year:

• there will be nobody on the behaviour chart
• they will try not to argue
• they will always listen when someone is talking to them
• they will look after equipment
• they will not be late for School
• they will always have everything they need in School (eg PE kit)

Our topic for this term (appropriately enough maybe) is "Water, Water, Everywhere."  All classes have started working on the topic, and children in the Main School are looking forward to trips out and about, linked to that theme.

Hamsters have been enjoying exploring the topic of water in a variety of fun ways:

During the holiday, the Staff Room has been refurbished, and looks very smart and modern. Some of the classroom doors have been painted in bright, zingy colours, that greatly appeal to the younger children.

This term our "Choices" begin next week. As usual, there is a wide range of subjects, eg "Jobs People Do", Science, Music, Textiles, Cookery, Storysacks, Drama, Crafts, Golf, Newsletter... doesn't it soumd exciting?!

Week Ending 13th December 2013

It's been a busy week for us, with the Christmas Fayre on Sunday, Hamsters Sing-Along, and three performances of our Main School Christmas Concert!  Here is a selection of photos of our festive celebrations.

Next week we are all looking forward to parties, Christmas dinner, a Talent Show and of course, non-uniform and Games Day on the last day of term.  By then I think we will all be ready for the start of the Christmas holidays...

Week Ending 6th December 2013

On Wednesday, children from the Main School walked to St Mary's Church after lunch, for a Christingle Service. In the morning, each child had made their own Christingle, and learned about the significance of the orange (that represents the world), the candle (that represents Jesus, the light of the world) and the dried fruit sticks (that represent the fruits of the Earth and the four seasons).

The children enjoyed an entertaining talk from the vicar about the meaning of Christmas, and sang some Christmas carols.  They were praised by the vicar for their very good behaviour whilst visiting the church. Each of the Christingle candles were lit, and the Church glowed with bright light.

Thursday was the day for a full Christmas concert run through. The children sang and spoke clearly, and are word perfect. Please remember to get your tickets for the performance of your choice, as a ticket is required for entry.

Friday is EBA Enterprise Fair, from 3-4pm, in the Hall.  The Year 4 and 5 children are very excited, so please come along and do some Christmas shopping, and enjoy some refreshments.

Week Ending 29th November 2013

EBA Enterprise are finalising their products for their Christmas Fair, and Foxes Classroom looks like an Aladdin's Treasure Box full of wonderful goodies that you will soon be able to buy...  There will also be games, crafts and refreshments, so something for everyone!

3.00 - 4.00pm in the School Hall

The children in Main School will also have an opportunity to browse and buy before school finishes, so if you are unable to make it, but would still like to support our Year 4 and 5's enterprise efforts, don't forget to send some money in with your child next Friday. We suggest around £2-£3, in a named envelope please!

Hedgehogs Class had a wonderfully exciting visitor earlier this week - a London bus driver, who told them all about his adventures in the big city!  All the children were given a toy bus each - which then went on some very interesting adventures... through streets of baked beans, avenues full of shaving foam... a fun and messy time was had by all!

The School is now nearly completely decorated for Christmas... so if you have not been in to visit recently, here is a photographic update.

Practicing is well underway for our Christmas Concert, so remember to get you tickets in plenty of time.
