Week Ending 27th September 2013

On Wednesday, there was a large turn-out of guests for the first Sharing Assembly, of the new academic year.  Children shared their achievements and bravely spoke up clearly and confidently. There was a special mention for our Year Five pupils who have been so kind, helpful and mature, whilst looking so smart in their blazers and ties.

Thursday was another busy day, as it was once again time for our "Choices" afternoon, which everyone looks forward to. The "Choices" are wide and varied: Golf, Cross Country Running, Cookery, Science Experiments, Book Making, "Jobs People Do", EBA Newsletter, Spanish, Creative Pastimes.

For parents, there was an English grammar class on Thursday afternoon, hosted by an expert in this area - one of a series, all free of charge!

Friday was "Dahlicious Day", when we all dressed up as characters from Roald Dahl stories, or came to school wearing yummy yellow, to raise money for the Roald Dahl Charity www.roalddahlcharity.org. Once again our children (and their parents!) did us proud, and there was a wonderful variety of costumes, from the whole wide range of Roald Dahl stories... and some Pre-School Super Heroes!  It's great to know that the money raised at Eaton Bray Academy will help towards making life better for seriously ill children.

The local papers came along and took photos for the newspaper, and made a lovely video for their website, which can be seen here.

Next week, on Wednesday, there will be a Sports afternoon, for Key Stage Two pupils, so hopefully the lovely spell of warm weather will last until then. The children have been practicing events and are looking forward to their special energetic afternoon.

Week Ending 20th September 2013

Another busy week has flown by! Our School is becoming brighter each day, as more display boards are completed on our topic of "Transport". Have you spotted our time-line of vehicles through the century, compiled by Badgers and Foxes?

Otters have been busily painting large vehicles for their "Otter Road", and even had fun, when tidying up, forming an "Apron Train!" Squirrels have been travelling to the Isle of Struay with Katie Morag (from the books by Mairi Hedderwick), and enjoying plotting routes for her with the Bee-Bots!

Rabbits were outdoors this week, travelling on foot, to find three-dimensional shapes around the grounds. Hedgehogs and Hamsters are settling in well, and are planning to decorate our newly painted external doors with...? (Watch this space for the answer!)

Choices this week included another visit from the Birds of Bray, and another group of lucky children had their chance to hold an owl (wearing a thick leather gauntlet of course!)

On Thursday evening the School was open for talks about English and Maths, in the various key stages. Everyone who came seemed to welcome the information, so that children can be helped and encouraged at home too.

Have you noticed how well our fruit trees are producing apples and pears? Looking forward to lots of fruity crumbles for lunch.

Next Wednesday will be the first Sharing Assembly of the year.

Week Ending 13th September 2013

Another term is well underway, and our children, from Pre-School to Year Five, are settled and enjoying School routine.

Our Year Five children look extremely smart in their black blazers, and stripey ties, and are setting a wonderful example to our younger pupils.

Transport is the topic for this term, and already boards have been designed, with high flying kites and "Squirrels" who have journeyed around the World during the summer!  Badgers have started making papier-mache hot air balloons, which they will eventually paint in bright colours and patterns.  Rabbits have been looking at maps, and plotting their holiday routes by car, boat, aeroplane and train.  Otters have produced some lovely art work, which will brighten up the corridors at their end of the school!

Many maintenance jobs have been completed over the past few weeks, enabling our Academy to look smart and well cared for.  There is new fencing around our new classrooms, and some external paintwork is nearly completed, ready for Hedgehogs to add their wonderful murals.  The allotment is full of fruit and vegetables, and our hens have returned from their summer holiday, and they continue to lay well.

Week Ending 6th September 2013

Welcome to the new school year at Eaton Bray Academy!

We hope that you have all had an enjoyable summer and made the most of the lovely weather. Those that attended our Back to School Barbecue last weekend certainly did - with great live music, fun and games on the field, and of course, superb barbecue food!  Many thanks to the HSA for organising this lovely event, and to our wonderful band of parents and professional musicians, who entertained us with a variety of suitable summer songs and melodies.

This is a very exciting time for us, as this term, we say hello to our very first Year Five children. Don't they look smart in their brand new uniforms?

We also have a new structure in the playground! A wooden "Chatterbox" to replace the one that was removed when the building work started.  It provides a lovely shelter and play space for the children and, as you can see, doubles as an outdoor stage, so you can look forward to the first EBA open air performances of Shakespeare soon...

We have many events and activities organised for this term, including of course our whole school trip to Duxford on 23rd October. Watch this space for more information!

The end of term is finally here!

We have had a very busy last week in beautiful weather...

Monday: Hamsters Sports Day in the morning, Hedgehogs and Otters Sports Day in the afternoon.

Wednesday: End of Year Barbecue for Badger and Hamsters' Teddy Bears' Picnic
