Week Ending 25th May 2012

A lovely bright, sunny week!  The children have enjoyed being on the field, going under our Olympic hoops, then practising events, ready for our Olympic sports day event.

Our grounds are looking very colourful... can you spot the "Jubilee" areas?  "Open Gardens" this year is on Sunday 10th June, so do come along and have a tour of our grounds and enjoy some refreshments.  Lots to see: entrance, orchard, allotment, class gardens, pond, chicken "shack", field, hedgerows.

Children have had experience of additional soccer (EB Lions) and tennis this week, and KS2 children soon begin swimming lessons.

This week, Badgers have been potters, replicating Greek earthenware.  Rabbits have made olive leaf crowns, to use in the re-enactment of "Zeus in the Temple".  Squirrels have designed and made a coat for an Olympic Winner (children will take turns to wear it, when they achieve an Olympic value or task!)  Otters have extended their 3D models of London.  Hedgehogs have made full sized soldiers of the Queen's Brigade, whilst Hamsters have enjoyed  playing on all their outdoor equipment, without getting wet!  They have made the most of the lovely warm weather, enjoying story time in the shade of lovely leafy trees, but have stayed inside in the cool for snack times.  While it is so hot, please remember to provide a sun hat for your child, and apply sun cream before you drop them off at school!

REMEMBER: Tuesday 29th May - King/Queen dress up Day!

Week Ending 18th May 2012

Year two children have been working extremely hard on lots of special work, so are looking forward to celebrating on Monday, with a "Plop Party!"  The unusual party is due to the fact that the children have used the text "The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark," for English research.

There was more excitement on Tuesday, when year two children enjoyed a visit from the fire service.  Not wishing to be left out, our pre-school children (and staff) also came over to have a look, and have their photographs taken with the firemen!

Our hens, Blue, Belle and Buttercup have now settled in well and are laying eggs that will be on sale, hopefully on a more regular basis!

Plans are well underway for our Jubilee Week at the end of this half term, with different activities planned for each day, culminating with a Jubilee Party on the Friday.

Our grounds are beginning to be planted with annuals, in preparation for Open Gardens on 10th June.  Do try to come along and share our wonderful aesthetically pleasing Academy!

Week Ending 11th May 2012

A shorter week, due to the May Day Holiday!  The School is looking very bright and cheerful, with lots of Olympic themed boards.  We are still waiting for a dry spell, to do outdoor P.E., and practice sports like the Olympic athletes.  The children are desperate to go under the "rings", which they feel will give them that magic touch, to run like a flash of lightning!

On Tuesday, there was a Sharing Assembly, when children shared their achievements with family members.  Hedgehogs have been making flags, and sharing their skills in carpentry; Otters have been thinking of Great British landmarks; Squirrels have been going back in time, to Beijing, and made a huge model of the Great Wall of China; Rabbits have transferred their rounded window into a Greek temple, similar to the one at Wardown Park and Badgers have designed Greek pottery in the style of the artists of a few thousand years ago.
