Week Ending 26th January 2018

It's been another busy week at Eaton Bray Academy.

Year 4 and 5 children have been enjoying more hockey sessions in the sunshine with our visiting PE Specialist.

On Monday, we were visited by a representative of Bedfordshire Police, who came in to talk to the children about e-safety.  As children increasingly have access to mobile phones, tablets and other devices, it is crucial that they know how to navigate their way safely through the digital world, so we are keen that they should be given advice on how to do so.  There will be a further visits from the e-safety team later in the term, to reinforce this message, including an e-Safety Day for the children on Tuesday 6th February, and a parents' meeting on the evening of Wednesday 7th February.  We hope that this will be well attended.

Rabbits Class children enjoyed a lovely day out on Tuesday.  As part of the Schools Linking Network Programme (SLN), they met with children from our partner school, Maidenhall in Luton, for a day of team building fun at Stockwood Park.  The weather was very kind for January, which meant that the children were able to enjoy some activities outdoors as well as indoors, really making the most of the experience.

We had lovely feedback from the SLN organiser, who commented on the good behaviour of all the children:

I just wanted to say that the Linking Day was great today and the children were fantastic.  Everyone had lots of fun and there were some lovely friendships appearing, which was great.

There were yet more visitors this week for children in Hamsters Class.  As part of their topic work on "People Who Help Us", they were lucky enough to receive a visit from a Firefighter on Tuesday, and a Police Officer on Wednesday.

Our Value for this half term is "Happiness", and on Thursday, Otters Class gave an assembly to the rest of the school about this.   All the children spoke up beautifully, telling the story of "The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse" - which they had illustrated with their own drawings on a PowerPoint slideshow - to demonstrate that different thing make different people (or mice) happy.  They then talked about the things that make them happy, before singing a wonderful "Happy" song with which everyone else joined in.

Year 5 Enterprise children this week looked at salads, and did some taste testing of various salad dressings.  Their brief for this next project is to create a healthy winter salad, being mindful of the fact that many salad ingredients aren't grown in this country at this time of year and have to be imported.  They will need to use seasonal produce as far as possible...
