The end of term and Christmas is so close now, that we can now almost smell the roast turkey and stuffing, and hear Santa's reindeer on the roof!

It's been a busy and joyful week - please enjoy some photos of all that we have been doing.

Week Ending 7th December 2018

It is definitely Christmas now at Eaton Bray Academy!  Christmas trees, displays and decorations are up in all the classrooms, and we are all really looking forward to our Christmas Fair on Saturday.

Last Friday, the PTA hosted a Wine and Cheese Evening in the School Hall.  All who attended enjoyed an entertaining talk by local wine expert Matt Pym, as well as getting to taste a selection of wines, and cheese supplied by Hines Butchers. It was a very pleasant evening - a great chance for parents to appreciate a bit of child-free time and catch up with other adults!

The children have all been rehearsing hard for their Christmas plays and performances this week.  On Wednesday morning, Hedgehogs, Otters, Squirrels and Rabbits got the opportunity to perform their songs in front of an audience, when the "Wednesday Club" came to visit.  Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, and as a thank you, presented the children with some books for the school library.

On Wednesday afternoon the whole school walked down St Mary's Church for the annual EBA Christingle service.  As usual it was a lovely occasion, especially when all the lights were switched off in the church, and the candles lit.

On Thursday morning, parents were invited in to school to watch the Hamsters children perform their Christmas concert. The children sang some lovely songs and told the story of the Nativity - everyone agreed that it was wonderful!  Otters Class children enjoyed it so much that they wrote a special thank you letter to the younger children to let them know.

The Year Six EBA Enterprise Mexican restaurant evening was a huge success!  Diners at "Amigos de Bray" were treated to a delicious and superbly cooked three course meal, beautifully presented and served by attentive waiting staff.  Well done to all who were involved - the five star reviews on our website are well deserved!

"What a fabulous evening!
The food was absolutely delicious, the service outstanding and the atmosphere was fantastic. The children & staff had clearly worked amazingly hard in the lead up to this event. What a fantastic learning experience for all of them. Thank you to all involved."

"Fabulous fine dining evening at this exclusive restaurant. Absolutely recommend. Food, service and staff all brilliant."

On Monday, Badgers Class enjoyed a very interesting trip to the Metro Bank in Luton. Staff from the bank have been coming into class for the last three weeks and teaching the children all about banking in real life...budgeting, saving, mortgages, loans, interest and lots more.

For their final session, the children were invited to go into the bank to see how things work and go behind the scenes (including inside the vault!) They had a fabulous time and learnt so much about money in the real world. If you want to know what ATM or PIN stand for then ask a Badger!

The children behaved impeccably and were a credit to Eaton Bray Academy.

On Thursday, Otters Class enjoyed a dance class, courtesy of the JoAnn Latus School of Dance.  They had a lovely time, learning the basics of tap and ballet during their forty minute session - and if this has left them eager for more, classes take place on Tuesday and Friday afternoons at Eaton Bray Village Hall. Call Jo on 07800 518654 for more information.

Thursday was the highlight of this week for children in Foxes and Deer Classes. As part of their learning about World War Two, they visited the Lincolnsfield Centre, near Bushey, where there is a wonderful hands on museum of 1940s life.

The children experienced a 1940s school room, complete with war time posters pinned to the walls, and a strict school mistress who tested them on their mental arithmetic!  They found out all about the life of children in Britain during WWII, investigating gas masks, air raid warnings and shelters, and were given a lesson in fire fighting, forming a human chain to pass buckets of water to the stirrup pump operator.

In the military museum section, they had the opportunity to look at various types of weaponry, uniform and other artefacts, then back on the Home Front, they visited a 1940s house, where they discovered how ordinary people lived, coped with their rations, and managed according to the "make do and mend" philosophy.  They also had great fun dressing up in some of the fashions of the 1940s!
