Dell Farm survived EBA!

A wonderful time was had by all, and here are a selection of photographs, showing the highlights of the event.

 

 

Finishing touches are underway for our Summer Fayre on Saturday. Please come along and join us, and give your support to the School.

At the end of Wednesday lunch time, a happy "farewell" was said to Miss Topp, the "bride-to-be", as a shower of confetti floated down. When she returns next week, she will be Mrs Clark!

A new set of "Choices" has started, for the final part of the Summer Term. If anyone out there feels they would like to give a little time, on Thursday afternoons next term, please inform the office.

Week Ending 6th June 2014

What a lovely week we've had!

On Monday it was Mrs Hounslow's birthday, and to celebrate, all the children had a delicious ice lolly at playtime. What lucky children, and what a kind Head to provide a treat for the children on her special day!

On Thursday, we had an EBA sponsored "Read-Off", when the children had a session of reading their favourite books, and seeing how many stamps could be accumulated during the special occasion, to raise money for library books and Kindles.

 

 

Friday was extremely exciting for some of our older children, who set off on an adventure to Dell Farm Activity Centre.  Whipsnade Zoo was the first item on the agenda, then an afternoon on the farm, followed by an evening learning about survival skills!  There was great excitement about the sleepover - wonder how much sleep there will be?!!  Saturday will involve caving and archery, before the children are collected by parents after lunch.

Our grounds now have an orienteering course, so the children will have the opportunity to participate in some outdoor fun!  see if you can "spot" any of the signs (there are over twenty!)

The allotment is thriving, partly due to all the recent rain.  There will be more planting of salad leaves, with the intention of some children being able to grow, design and then eat the imaginative plates of salad.

Week Ending 23rd May 2014

Another week has flown by, and already the half term holiday week is upon us!

The busiest day this week was Wednesday, due to our Main School trip to Stockwood Park running track.  All children had the opportunity to run, as professional atheletes, on the splendid track.  The event culminated with an Awards Ceremony, when medals and special awards were distributed.  Here is a selection of photographs from the day, for you to appreciate how well the children did, and the effort and organisation that is necessary to ensure that the day runs smoothly.

Pre-School children had a lovely week, where the theme was Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have been acting out the story all week, and enjoyed a teddy bears' picnic.

On Thursday evening there was a chance for parents of younger children to come along to a repeat of our previous ERR (Early Reading Research) demonstration, so that all parents will feel confident in helping their child at home, with their reading and understanding of phonics.

Finally, we have just about finished our wonderful hall display which is a reproduction of a Henri Rousseau painting, in collage form. Here it is in all it's vibrant splendour!

Week Ending 16th May 2014

Another busy week at Eaton Bray Academy!

On Monday we all enjoyed a non-uniform day, in return for a contribution towards our Summer Fair, which takes place on Saturday 14th June. Children brought in donations of crisps, biscuits, paper napkins... all to go into a summer picnic hamper to be raffled on the day.

Also on Monday, the first sessions of our after school karate club took place, which proved to be popular and fun. This is open to adults as well as children from the age of six years.

On Wednesday, in Sharing Assembly, children shared their wonderful achievements of this half term with their families. There was a wide variety of pieces of work from right across the curriculum, all worthy of praise.

On the same day, a bee-keeping expert came to visit, and talked about life as a bee-keeper, allowing children to investigate a colony of bees, and taste delicious honey. The children learned a tremendous amount about not only the bee-keeper's job, but also about the busy bees!

Saturday evening is the time for "A Night at the Races" - the HSA have worked hard to put on a fundraising Race Night, so hopefully all concerned will have an enjoyable evening.

Next Wednesday, the Main School will travel to Stockwood Park, for an experience on the tracks, just like professional atheletes... there will, of course, be a "medal" ceremony (watch this space for photographs!)

Our hall board is almost complete - a painting by Henri Rousseau reproduced in collage, with colourful contributions from every class. It is beginning to look wonderful, and just right for our "Global Gardens" theme. Again - watch this space for a photograph!

Week Ending 9th May 2014

Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable, long May Day weekend, and managed to enjoy some lovely sunshine!

This week, our year two children have been completing some SATS, in the hall, so the largest room in the School has been very calm and peaceful. Results of these tests will be included in the end of year report, for all year two children.

Hamsters have enjoyed a "Bear Hunt "week, with activities based on the well loved book. The children recreated the story as a miniature garden, using different materials, including wood that they sawed themselves. They then went on a walk through the Nature Trail.

Our allotment planting is looking very green and healthy and the kitchen staff have already used some of the rhubarb, for tasty healthy desserts!

Hopefully the glorious weather will last until, at least, our Stockwood Park Sports Day trip on 21st May. Please check that your children have all the necessary equipment for the event, which has been organised by our PE Co-ordinator.

Our next holiday begins on Monday 26th May, for one whole week!

Week Ending 2nd May 2014

Our new topic, "Global Gardens" is well underway, and lots of exciting new pieces of work are popping up around the School! This term, the hall board will be based on "Garden of Dreams" a painting by Henri Rousseau, with each class contributing to the piece of art.

Our Thursday afternoon Choices session was enjoyable once again, with one of the groups embarking on an "awesome" Outdoor Adventure around the Nature Trail, and another finding out all about caring for guinea pigs!

Also on Thursday, there was a "Pyjama Disco" in the Hall, when everyone participating had a noisy, but enjoyable time!

Week Ending 25th April 2014

The Spring Term ended at Eaton Bray Academy, with a couple of lovely occasions to celebrate Easter. The Home School Assocation organised an Easter Egg Hunt for all the family, which was well attended and lots of fun! Then, on the last day of term, our Year 4 and 5 children hosted an Easter Afternoon Tea for parents, as part of their EBA Enterprise. Parents were treated to tea and delicious home made cakes, and had the opportunity to purchase hand made Easter gifts and try their luck in a chocolate raffle. All profits from this event will be reinvested, and used to fund the children's next exciting (egg-citing?) Enterprise project.

The first week of the Summer Term has whizzed by, with the help of some warm sunshine!

On Wednesday evening there was a talk on mathematics at E.B.A. for Key Stage 2 parents, so hopefully now all our parents can happily help with this at home, when necessary. Our ENR (Early Number Research) provides an invaluable start to this core area of learning.

Our topic for this term is "Global Gardens". This term, younger children will be going on their school trip , so watch this space for details.

The allotment has been planted up with vegetables, that are just beginning to sprout. The intention is that the produce will be used towards the end of term, either in the kitchen, or in classes where the children will design and then make their own healthy meals.

A new set of Choices has started, and these include: Storysacks, Textiles, Golf, Papercraft, Orienteering,
Outdoor Adventure, Jobs People Do, Newsletter Club, Music, Cookery, Sports and Science.  This week we enjoyed a visit from the ladies from the Stray Cat Rescue Centre, who brought cats and kittens for the children to meet.
