Week Ending 2nd February 2018

Hedgehogs children really love their new outside area!

This week they have wrapped up warm and enjoyed taking the Early Years Curriculum outside into this lovely exciting space, which sparks their creativity and adventurousness.  They have been looking at the work of sculptor Andy Goldsworthy, and using natural objects to create their own pieces of art inspired by his work.

Otters Class children have worked hard this week, solving lots of maths problems indoors and outdoors, involving direction, time, weight, sequencing and measure.

On Thursday morning, Squirrels Class presented their Class Assembly.  They all joined in to share with parents and the rest of the school, some of the work they have completed so far this year.  This included their topic work on "Voyages Around The World", some impressive Maths work, poems and songs.

Foxes children had an exciting afternoon on Thursday.  They were visited by the local butcher, Mr Hines, who came in to talk to them about his work, and to demonstrate how meat is prepared for sale.

After a lengthy question and answer session, where Mr Hines was quizzed about every aspect of running a butcher's shop, the children were given the opportunity to handle various cuts of meat, including a pig's trotter, lamb's kidney, pig's liver and shoulder of pork.  The children were fascinated to see how the pork is deboned, and were particularly interested to learn more about the knives used (they were not allowed to handle these obviously!)

Following the visit, the children wrote a report detailing all they had learnt.

Badgers Class children have been continuing with their work on mountains, as part of their "Wondrous World" topic.  They were given a choice of two activities, either to design and make a model of their chosen mountain, or to research the height of the peak of a range of mountains across the world, and record their data on a computer graph program.

Just one more busy EBA week now before we can all enjoy a short break for half term...!
