Week Ending 7th March 2014

Another busy week has flown by. On Monday, a group of children went with their teachers into Leighton Buzzard to buy stock for the School Shop. What an exciting adventure! The School Shop is open for business on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, and children can buy all sorts of items priced from around 20p to £2.00.

The highlight of the week though, was our EBA World Book Day on Friday. The theme was "Water, Water Everywhere" and so the school was full of fish, mermaids and pirates. Some of the older children were inspired by their trip to the theatre earlier this term, and chose to dress up as characters from Wind in the Willows.

Week Ending 28th February 2014

Everyone seems to be very pleased to be back into term-time routine, after the half term break.  A new range of Choices has started, offering some new activities, such as origami and picture framing, as well as old favourites like cookery and science.

On Wednesday evening there was a meeting of parents of present Year Four children, who will continue attending our Academy into Year Five. It was a very positive meeting for both staff and parents.

We continue working towards gaining PSQM (Primary Science Quality Mark) status, and should achieve our award this year.

Next Wednesday, is our Sharing Assembly, so do come along, if you have a child who is participating, and support their achievements. It is held in the Hall at 9am.  Next Friday is our EBA World Book Day, where the theme will be "Water".

In a few weeks there will be an opportunity for our older children to compete in County Hockey Trials - the first time EBA have been able to participate. We continually endeavour to extend our curriculum and offer an innovative education for all.

Week Ending 14th February 2014

Our older Key Stage 2 children went to All Saints Academy in Dunstable, for netball and tag rugby tournaments with twelve other local schools on Thursday, and we did fantastically well!!  We won the tag rugby overall; our netball A team won all their matches, and the B team won all but two of theirs, so we await the overall netball results excitedly...  If there had been a prize for the loudest cheering, and most supportive team, we would have won that too!

On Friday morning, Badgers and Rabbits children and their parents enjoyed a Valentines Book Breakfast, to show how much they love reading!  Everyone enjoyed pancakes and croissants, and shared their favourite stories and poems on the theme of love.

Finally, it is with sadness that we say goodbye to Mrs Constable, our "Chief" in the School Office, as she retires on Friday. We will all miss you!

Happy half term - don't forget, we're back on Monday 24th February.

STOP PRESS: We have just learnt that we were second overall in the netball tournament, so well done teams - we are very proud of you!

This week was the culmination of the present "Choices" subjects.  End products were jig-saw puzzles, icy cold snow, a chocolate "Gruffalo" cake, masks, colourful sketch books, Valentine hearts, and a "Gruffalo" storysack.  A truly amazing extra curricular array of choices!

Whatever next...? Watch this space!

Our EBA Enterprise Co. are busily baking cakes for Valentine's Day. The quality of their buying is always superb and everyone, I'm sure, would appreciate a tasty treat, to compensate for miserable weather!

Following their exciting adventure last Thursday, when they travelled to the Duchess Theatre in London to see a ballet performance of the "Wind in the Willows", many of our older children would now like to have the opportunity of experiencing ballet lessons!  So... if there's anyone out there who would like to volunteer to do a ballet Choices session, please contact us!

Week Ending 31st January 2014

Another very busy week has flown by. On Tuesday the hall was busy with guests for Sharing Assembly.  Hamsters showed some very impressive number matching. Hedgehogs had lots of "chilly" penguin paintings. Otters showed lovely writing, whilst Squirrels were proud of their electrical circuits, and literacy. Rabbits, Badgers and Foxes had certificates for Marathons and Bikeability.

On Thursday some KS2 children went on a theatre trip to London, to see a performance of "Wind in the Willows." There was added excitement, when due to a last minute change of departure time, tea was included!  Our talented chefs provided an array of sandwiches, sausage rolls and delicious cakes - the children were delighted to have a tea party together, before their coach ride.  On arrival in London, with time to spare, our wonderful coach driver took the children on a short impromptu sightseeing tour, before dropping them at the Duchess Theatre, where they enjoyed a fabulous show. Truly a trip to remember!

There will of course, be trips later on this term, for the other children.

Half term reminder: School breaks up on Friday 14th February, for one week.

Week Ending 24th January 2014

This has been a varied week, with lots of exciting things happening. The large hall board looks aesthetically pleasing with its colourful display of umbrellas, representing the theme "Singing In The Rain."

On Monday, Year 4 and 5 children had the opportunity to show their bicycle handling skills, under supervision, in the playground, and then, Year 5s, out and about in Eaton Bray.  The visiting teacher was impressed by their listening skills, and the way they encouraged and inspired each other.

Wednesday morning got off to an exciting start with flashes and bangs, due to "Cosmic Chris", the scientist. He delivered a science session about air, and demonstrated how three objects could float in the air... with the help of a hair dryer. There were flashes of light that could be seen even with eyes tightly shut - the children felt "Cosmic Chris" was more like a magician than a scientist!

SHARING ASSEMBLY IN THE HALL NEXT TUESDAY AT 9AM

Friday, 17 January 2014

Week Ending 17th January 2014

How appropriate our "Water Water Everywhere" topic is, considering the amount of rain that has been falling in the area, in deluges.  Considering our choice was made in the last academic year, it is amazing how topical our theme has become!  Next time you visit our Hall, you may hear the song "Singing In The Rain" being sung, as an accompaniment to the umbrella art work on the walls.

Choices has returned, on Thursday afternoons, with an amazing range of subjects.  Golf had to be indoors, due to the weather, but was thoroughly enjoyed by the children.  Other indoor activities included craft with paper, Venetian masks, newsletter, a talk about bats, Storysacks, music, cooking, drama and textiles.  It is the largest range of topics that has been available since Choices began some time ago.

Further meetings have taken place about our trip to France, next year.  Updates will be given regularly!  The residential trip for this year is to Dell Farm and will take place in June.

Booster Clubs have re-started and the School Shop will be open from next week, so do allow children to bring along pocket money!
