Another week has flown by! Lots of jobs have been completed around the School and grounds, as the weather has been very kind recently. The Nature Trail has been cleared of fallen trees, so will be back in use again, for Science investigations.

This week Hamsters and Hedgehogs have, like Badgers been finding out about the Chinese New Year. Look at this wonderful display!

Otters have been having an "out of this World" experience, and investigating levers and springs and how they make rockets move.

Squirrels have been on a trip to meet Aboriginees in Australia! If any strange musical sounds are heard around the village, don't panic, it's just "Digeridoo Tooting Time!"

Rabbits have constructed "The Iron Man," and ingeniously used left over pieces from Christmas crackers for his metal persona.

Badgers are busily writing exciting books for our Hedgehog children to share. the theme is "The Magic Toy Shop!"

We are looking forward to our zoo visitors on Friday. Details next week!

This week has been an "at home" week, for most of us, without adventurous trips to London! Every class has been working on ideas generated from the visit to the Science Museum.

Hamsters, Hedgehogs and Otters have been investigating pushes and pulls. They have had lots of investigations to puzzle over, and had fun using the larger toys, as research. Hedgehogs and Otters have also been finding out about space, with Otters writing fantasy alien stories and poems, and Hedgehogs making magic flying carpets upon which to whizz away into the stars!

Squirrels have made discoveries about Leonardo Da Vinci, and had fun flying their own aeroplanes... paper of course!

Rabbits have been on a visit to Leighton Buzzard, linked to their recycling topic, and were amazed to find out about the role of Charity Shops in our local area.

Badgers have been learning all about the water cycle, and investigating the rain forests. They have been busy writing poems about the rain forests and jungle animals, which they plan to make into a book to be enjoyed by the younger children.

The highlights of the last week have been our visits to the Science Museum in London. The children enjoyed the coach journey to the Metropolis and spotted many famous sights!

There were many area to visit, including the Garden for younger children, and the Launch Pad, for older children. Many scientific theories were tested... and some answers found!

Everyone enjoyed choosing a gift in the shop, and had a maths lesson, as they worked out payment, and checked change. The visit culminated for all, with a "Bubble Talk." As you can imagine, lots of bubbles were popped, and a couple of our children ended up in their own gigantic bubbles.

The visit provides the base for our "Sharing The Planet" topic this term.

Another busy week has flown by, with only two left at School, until the festive break. The School is now decorated for Christmas, and looks magical and festive! The office staff even have lights around their computers!

There is a Sharing Assembly on Tuesday at 9am in the School Hall... the last one this year!

Our Christmas Fair last weekend was wonderfully supported, and it was lovely for Staff to chat to so many friendly faces from the past and present. Some photos of the event:

The Christmas Spirit is upon us! Our boards are decorated with the theme of "Christmas Around the World" and the Concert is polished and professional.

There will be a collection before each performance commences, and drinks and nibbles available at the Tuesday and Wednesday shows.

Our hens are still laying eggs, and Henrietta seems to "on a high" at the moment, as she is often to be found on top of the hen house door!!

French is having an impact on us all, with many children using phrases throughout the day. A unit on "weather" has just been completed, so there could be family forecasts in French, around the breakfast table.

Children attending the sleepover have chosen their menu for breakfast, which our School cook will be up bright and early to prepare, with a loyal team of early bird helpers.

On Tuesday, there was a very well attended Sharing Assembly, when some children shared their achievements. There were Babushka dolls / William Morris prints / marathon certificates / picture frames / pincer crabs / gymnastics and phonics. Well done to all!

Rehearsals for our Christmas Concert are well underway, and the children are even singing renditions around the playground. There will be two performances:

6th December at 2.00pm

8th December at 5.30pm

The corridors and hall are being decorated with the theme of "Around The World," so beware of snakes popping out of pots, from the realms of Africa!

Each class is gathering items for food hampers, from a variety of countries, so please give donations, as soon as possible, as the School Fair is on 26th November, when the hampers will be raffle prizes. Do come along and support us, as there will be lots of food and fun for all!

We are romping ahead to Christmas, and parts for our Concert are cast. Most children will be dressed from countries around the World: Hawaii / Australia / India / America / China / Africa. It should prove to be a multi-cultural exciting and colourful event! We hope it will be enjoyed by all.

At Open Afternoon on Tuesday, we welcomed lots of visitors to join us for a tour of our School, as well as a chance to have tea and cake. Hedgehogs were adventurous with water-play activities, Otters were busy making crabs with moving legs! Squirrels were dressed in "Pirate" uniform, and all who entered had to "walk the plank!" Rabbits made wibbly wobbly jelly that made the hall smell rather fruity, whilst Badgers were creating William Morris designs.

Next Tuesday is a Sharing Assembly, when some children will share their achievements in the hall, at the beginning of the day.

Welcome back!

Hopefully an enjoyable break was had by all, that will "keep us going" until Christmas.

During the half term break, a small number of children enjoyed various activities at our very first Eaton Bray Academy Holiday Club.

Don't forget, Holiday Club will be running again in the Christmas Holidays, and is open to children aged three and over attending this School, and Year 5 children with siblings at this School. We would love to have more children to join in the fun!

Another half term is nearly gone! Next Monday evening is Consultation Evening, when parents have the opportunity to talk to teachers in the Hall, or simply look at their children's work. On Tuesday, there is a Sharing Assembly, when children from all classes may share their achievements.

Hamsters and Hedgehogs have completed their "A" frame shelter, made from bottles! Well done. They are having lots of fun travelling through it or hiding under it.

This week, work has started on the Christmas Concert, and lovely melodies have been heard floating up the corridor. All children from main School will be involved - the theme is "Christmas Around The World" - and hopefully parents will provide suitable costumes for their children. More details to follow, after casting is complete.

Another busy week has flown by! Hamsters are still enjoying their sandpit and having fun in the sun. Hedgehogs "bottle"shelter is ready to be erected, so look out for a strange structure in the grounds.

Otters have been in the swim, and have made a lovely sea collage for the corridor. Squirrels made their own musical instruments, and enjoyed marching round the grounds, blowing, plucking, shaking and beating, as part of "Eaton Bray Academy" Band. Rabbits' focus has been history this week, and they enjoyed designing and then packing their suit cases, from Victorian times. Badgers have been working on adventurous haiku poems, and showed the great talent they have with adventurous language, in just seventeen syllables!

On Friday, we had Jeans for Genes Day, and collected for the charity.

Changes are happening in the kitchen decoration, so if anyone comes along for a delicious Wednesday lunch, after half term, a revamped cooking area will be complete.

Monday was the AGM of the Home School Association. A new committee was formed and they are already planning for Christmas events.

On Tuesday, there was the first Sharing Assembly of the year, when children from all classes shared their achievements.

Hamsters have enjoyed exploring our Nature Trail, which made a lovely shady escape from the bright sun. Hedgehogs have been "under the sea" discovering jellyfish and sea anenomes. Squirrels Class had a Victorian visitor, dressed in long dress, shawl, bonnet and with a parasol, who answered lots of questions. Rabbits Class have had fun experimenting as scientists, with forces such as friction and gravity. Badgers Class have been investigating what life is like, in the sun, in Jamaica.

This week has been another busy time! On Monday evening there was a Maths Evening, when children demonstrated their knowledge of numbers to parents. Wednesday was the first meeting of Governors in the new School year, when there was an update of the creative curriculum, and of our Seaside Trip to Walton-on-the-Naze.

Hamsters have been having fun in their new sand pit, making sand castles and sand pies. Hedgehogs rock pool has lots of fishy friends floating in the seaweed, and has been very popular with everyone. Squirrels have been thinking of circles, spirals and spheres and made a display of beach balls in 2D and 3D. Rabbits have produced sculptures inspired by the Ocean, whilst Badgers have focused on Queen Victoria's summer residence - Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.

Our produce from the allotment continues to provide variety in School dinners, as does fruit from our orchard. The children are thoroughly enjoying their meals, with favourites this week being vegetarian wraps and Bakewell tart.

On Tuesday our first Sharing Assembly of the new School year will be held at 9.00am.

Monday evening is the time for the HSA Annual General Meeting, so please do come along and support us.

This week, most of our children enjoyed bopping at the disco, and had lots of fun.

The last Sharing Assembly was on Tuesday, when the children celebrated their achievements. They shared "Mother Nature" collage / papier mache animals / piggy banks / rain catchers / spoon bugs / Horrid Henry books, and a magnificent Chinese coat, with mosaic dragons and flowers that was modelled by a Rabbit!!

On Friday, we will be practicing activities for Sports Day, which is on Tuesday afternoon, for main school, and morning for Pre-School. Do hope you can come along and support the event.

Next Friday is our last day of term, so...

At the weekend, our School Float was awarded second place in the Carnival Procession. All aboard our pirate vessel, were turned out in their best finery, and a jolly time was enjoyed by all.

In preparation for our "Seaside Excursion" in September, the children have been researching what needs to be discovered next term, about sea life. The hall board and surrounding area has been magically turned into a sea-scape. You will be able to share in the fun, if you come along to Open Evening on Monday 4th July from 5.30pm - 7.00pm. At the same time, there will be samples of food from the kitchen, to get those mouths watering!

This week, children in Badgers have been swimming, and are also busily preparing work for the Leavers' Tea and Tour on the afternoon of 11th July. Rabbits have been re-enacting scenes, in costume, on our very own Academy "battle field"... no major cause for concern... even Boudica seemed to survive!

Younger children have been investigating "Mother Nature" for art, and have been compiling textiles in the style of William Morris.... perhaps orders may soon be taken for soft furnishing designs!!

Another busy week has flown by! On Tuesday there was a Sharing Assembly, when children shared their achievements with their families. We had samples of Chinese stitching; a lighthouse with a flashing light; a funny story; snappy crocodiles... just to mention a few!

There have been science visitors, golf and tennis coaches. Practicing for Sports Day is already taking place, and the children are looking forward to sharing their skills with their families, on our special afternoon.

Our Summer Fayre was on Saturday and was well attended. Everyone seemed to enjoy the fun and games. The smell of delicious barbecued food wafted around the School. The wind seemd to keep the rain away, and, apart from the people who volunteered to be soaked by sponges, all managed to stay dry!!

Despite the inclement weather, Open Gardens was well attended, and freshly baked scones and clotted cream, were consumed heartily. The consensus of opinion was that our Academy grounds were lovely, and our staff were friendly, kind and considerate!

On Monday, a visiting scientist held work shops on the themes of "Bubbles" and "Rockets." Tuesday's after school science club continues to be well attended, and the children enjoyed practical tasks and games.

Wednesday was a busy day for Badgers Class, as they went swimming in the morning and singing in the afternoon, at the Grove Theatre.

There was music in Hamsters as well, as they having been learning about Africa, listening to African music and drumming and reading the book Handa's Surprise.

Hedgehogs have been collecting hundreds of bottles for their eco-friendly shelter, which will be shared with all. They even made a striking collage from the bottle labels!

Otters have been growing seeds. Squirrels have been investigating how to make light boxes and solve the problem of how to make an electrical circuit, so that a seaside lighthouse could have a warning flashing light... we have some electricians "in the making!"

Rabbits have been astronauts and travelled round the Solar System in their originally designed rockets.

On Monday, we had a visitor who told us about electricity and safety. There were lots of practical things to do, and a fun film as well.

Wednesday was a day for more science... the first session of After School Science Club. Hopefully we will have a few budding scientists from Eaton Bray Academy, in the future.

This week, younger children had fun going to Spain, on the aeroplane. They visited Barcelona, and sampled fresh oranges and juice, which was most refreshing, after flamenco dancing. The visit ended at Gaudi's Park, and we tried to make mosaics and lizards in his style

Year 2 children went to China, and we had a fierce dragon dancing round the School!

Otters went back in time to 1666, and the Great Fire of London. They designed some wonderful timber framed houses, and wrote eye witness diaries of the scene from their window as the Great Fire raged.

Older children have been looking at Roman times, creating Roman mosaics, and drawing Roman legionaries. They have also been doing lots of singing in preparation for their concert next week.

On Tuesday, Sharing Assembly was well attended, and many children enjoyed sharing their achievements... We even had three Marathon certificate awards!

In the afternoon, a "mad scientist" held an assembly, which was very exciting. Children will have the opportunity to attend an after School science club, next half term.

Hopefully the village wasn't sent into a panic on Wednesday, when there were lots of "green" children in the vicinity of the school. There are now a selection of robots around our classroom, claiming to be able to perform all sorts of chores. These are Claudia the cleaning robot; Eric the electrician; Gary the gardener... all made from recycled materials.

In glorious sunshine, on Thursday, Rabbits enjoyed tennis, Hedgehogs did orienteering and Squirrels some gardening.

Our grounds are looking well-manicured, in preparation for Open gardens on 12th June. Do try to come along and stroll round, then perhaps have one of our delicious cream teas.

Next Friday is the day School closes for half term. ENJOY!

This week has been very busy. SATS for year 2 children are almost complete, and there has been a lot of effort and hard work in numeracy and English.

In the afternoons, the foundation topic has been art. Year 2 children have been sketching chairs, and even made some of their own, with originally designed coverings, from footballing fantasies to silvery surfaces! Younger children have been studying leaves and flowers and created a gigantic display of lilies, roses, and delphiniums, in the style of Georgia O'Keefe.

Our hens are back from their Easter holiday, and have settled well into their homes again. Eggs will continue to be on sale, when available. ENJOY!!

Lots of planting has taken place this week, in the allotment, and the flower beds, in preparation for Open Gardens on the 12th June... do come along and see the results of our "green-fingered" gardeners. HEdgehogs built their own cloche, and we are looking forward to sampling their tasty tomatoes. The Academy is also hoping to build a "bottle bay" so please donate any plastic bottles that you do not require.

We celebrated the Royal Wedding, by having our History Day on Thursday 28th April, when we invited Prince William and Katherine, to travel in time capsules to a variety of eras... Egyptian time / Romans / 1666 and the Great Fire of London nd Kings and Queens from the past.

Our allotment has now been planted with potatoes and chard, so we are looking forward to fresh salads, at lunchtimes. the children's favourite job is watering the plants...and sometimes themselves!

This week, younger children have been doing art, with a selection of topics, including 2D sculptures and collage, based on the theme, "Our Nature Trail." The children had a lovely walk around it, and collected many natural items, to use in their practical work.

On Friday, Badgers took part in a "Sing Up" event at Totternhoe Lower School, along with three other local schools. They sang lots of lovely songs that they have been learning this term, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Next week, we will be making plans for our "Academy" celebrations, which take place on 1st April... no joke! Visiting scientists are calling in to each class, and the children will be carrying out various scientific experiments. In the afternoon we are singing, and our "Marching Band" will lead us, as we march forward into Academy Status.

Sharing Assembly on Tuesday was well attended, and enabled some children to share their achievements, with their families.

In the afternoon, some Middle School children organised games activities, for Rabbits Class. It was a lovely, sunny afternoon, and all involved had fun.

Younger children, in Otters and Squirrels, had fun pond dipping, and were elated, when they found "Fred and Frederika" frogs, and "Nanette" the newt!

There were lots of creepy crawlies around this week too, as Rabbits were investigating mini-beasts. The children designed tracks for them to travel on, and incorporated maths, science and D.T.

Hedgehogs have been enjoying the story of "Jack And The Beanstalk," and turned a Hedgehog into "Jack."

Badgers have been continuing their research into Egyptians, and are very knowledgeable about that era.

Our allotment now has carrots and mange-tout growing, as well as what has been previously planted.

This week our foundation topic has been design and technology. Younger children have been busily making cards and gifts for special occasions. Afraid that no more details can be given, due to the secret nature of some gifts! (Mother's Day, of course.) Older children have been sewing money containers - wallets and coin purses.

Our allotment has been prepared for planting, and peas, beans and spinach are now under the cloche. The rhubarb crowns are shooting and so we look forward to rhubarb crumble and custard. Next week the pond will be the centre of some scientific research, so it has been cleaned and tidied, ready for lots of little "Squirrel and Otter" visitors.

On Friday, a visitor from the Greensand Trust held an assembly and left a "hands-on display for the children to investigate over the next few days.

On Wednesday, E.B.L.S. celebrated World Book Day. Children and Staff brought along books with a "colour" theme, and dressed up as a character from their chosen book. Costumes ranged from clowns, Red Riding Hood, rainbow fish, to wicked witches!

The special day revolved around the colour theme, and the children participated in many exciting activities. A selection of these activities included:

* Dancing to "drum" music, as Elmer Elephants.

* Papier Mache hot air balloons

* Pop-up puppets

* Red Riding Hood story books

* Spanish songs and colour activities

On Thursday evening, Hamsters staff kindly invited parents and staff from other pre-schools to a "story-telling event", which took place in our Pre-School. They explored new and exciting ways of telling stories to children, which included puppets and other story-telling props. Everyone agreed it was a very enjoyable and successful evening event.

Half term is upon us! Hope you all enjoy the break with your children. Perhaps the sun will be kind and shine on us!

On Tuesday, there was a Sharing Assembly in the Hall, when quite a number of children celebrated their efforts in English / Maths / R.E. / Art and behaviour.

Friday was an exciting day, when we entertained some students from University. we look forward to seeing them next half term.

This week, Otters have been having a lovely time, decorating t-shirts. They explored the nature trail, collecting all sorts of natural objects - twigs, leaves, stones, feathers and even an egg shell - and used these to make vibrant printing designs, which are now beautifully displayed outside their classroom.

Key Stage one pupils have been making a variety of puppets in D.T., ranging from monstrous monsters to fantastic fairies! ... and as for Rapunzel... well can you spot her by our entrance?

Key Stage two children have been making wind up toys ... take care as you walk, in case one shoots by!

This week has been kinder to us, weather wise, so some children have enjoyed planting little plants that will give a splash of spring colour, soon. Keep your eyes open, as you approach the main entrance!! The Nursery allotments have also now been "dug over" by many pairs of willing hands.

Younger children have been investigating printing and weaving, so do look out for wonderful printed designs, and seasonal weavings, around our School.

Rabbits have been considering a variety of "Special Times" - Hannukah, Shabbat and Holi. On the "curved" glass window there is a selection of stained glass menorahs, and by the dome, a mobile depicting the Stars of "Holi." Please do take time to absorb the children's bright colourful and thoughtful work.

On Thursday, Badgers took part in the K'Nex Challenge, where their task was to build a bridge strong enough to hold a can of coke. They investigated a variety of different bridge designs, including swing bridges, suspension bridges and vertical lift bridges, and enjoyed reproducing them in miniature. The two winners will now go on to the next round of the competition.

On Wednesday, two new governors enjoyed a tour of the School, and the children were delighted to show how hard they were working, but having fun at the same time.

Our Foundation topic this week has been R.E. Children have enjoyed thinking of the story of the Creation, and how our wonderful world evolved.

Younger children set off some Chinese lanterns in the grounds, on Thursday, to celebrate Chinese New Year. Then the cook created a Chinese lunch, which many of the children thoroughly enjoyed.

Bulbs are popping through in our grounds, and shrubs and trees are showing signs of growth... how nice to think that Spring is nearly here.

Our hens continue to lay eggs that have been used this week in delicious quiches for lunch.

It will soon be time to use our bird-hide... so if anyone out there has some binoculars that they could donate, we would be most grateful.

This week, we welcomed visitors to our first Sharing Assembly of 2011. Children celebrated achievements in most subjects, and there was a wide range of exciting things, from jumping frogs, flying parrots, to bear caves and Tudor houses.

Pre-School children and Hedgehogs have been "in the dark," this week, as their topic was "Light and Dark."

There was a delicious aroma of toast wafting along the corridors... something to do with material changes?!!

Our allotment has been dug over ready for the new Spring planting. Bunches of carrots made their way to the kitchen, and were the main vegetable on Thursday's menu. The children voted them the best carrots ever grown!

Henrietta, Florence and Rosie continue to entertain us, and are still laying lovely, brown eggs.

Another apple tree has been planted in the orchard, so another type of apple to be munched on.

This week, our foundation topic has been history. Rabbits were finding out about "The Great Fire of London", and recreated Pudding Lane, in three dimensions.

Younger children were investigating "Old Toys." They made peg dolls from old wooden "dolly" pegs - hope you didn't have trouble hanging out the washing this week! Toy researchers busily investigated how various toys worked, and looked very smart with their special labels.

On Thursday, a visiting musician came to demonstrate percussion instruments in a special assembly. At the end, several children were picked to form an Eaton Bray percussion band!

Next Tuesday is the first Sharing Assembly of the New Year, and it will be held at 9am in the School Hall. Visitors will be able to see our "Tree of Hope for 2011," and share our wishes for the World for this year.

One of our new ideas, for this year, is to have a lending library. Children will be able to borrow a book to take home. The School Council will supervise this special treat!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Our Hall display is "Tree of Hopes for 2011," so here's hoping that all those wishes for the year come true, around the World. The children were very thoughtful.

Last Friday we were entertained at the pantomome. Dick Whittington made us all laugh, and we enjoyed wearing our 3D glasses, for the underwater sea scene.

This week, our foundation topic has been geography. If any stray bears have been spotted around the village... yes... they have escaped from Squirrels and Otters: "We're Going On A Bear Hunt."

Rabbits have been investigating the Amazon Rainforest, and have a lovely "hands-on" display.

Badgers have been looking at "the view through a window" and seeing how our environment changes over time.

Hedgehogs and Hamsters have been into outer space! The older children in Hedgehogs have learnt all about the moon, and enjoyed making wonderful moon scenes from flour, complete with craters and astronauts.

Hamsters have had fun playing in their "space pod" and making space jackets to wear.

The highlight of the week (so the children say) was the arrival of snow, on Tuesday. It's amazing what children can model from a white fluffy material!

We have been busily putting the finishing touches to our Concert and Choir events, and are looking forward to seeing lots of visitors, who we hope will enjoy the mince pies and warm drinks.

This week, younger children have been thinking about special times in the past, including the "Christmas Story."

Badgers Class have been looking at Henry VIII, Drake and the Spanish Armada. Hamsters have been celebrating St Andrew's Day, with Scottish flags, as well as making lots of Christmas decorations.

Our School Fayre was well attended, and the stalls and activities were busy all afternoon. As usual, the food was very popular, and as tasty as ever. Our "food" helpers do have competition though, as our "Ice a Biscuit" proved very popular. The children made sure that their biscuits had more icing than any bought in a baker's shop!! Santa's Grotto was busy, and now children are eagerly awaiting their gifts on Christmas Day, which only Father Christmas knows about...

Friday this week saw the official opening of our new "Ladybird" classroom! Staff and children dressed as ladybirds, in a variety of black and red clothing - some children even had ladybird wings on their backs. We enjoyed a day of fun activites, including decorating ladybird biscuits, making ladybird badges and singing ladybird songs. Look out for us in the local paper, because the press photographers came along too, to record our special day.

On Tuesday, Sharing Assembly allowed children to share their special achievements with peers, staff and families. The Hall was very busy, and children showed us samples of "Pop-Art," achievements in English and Maths, as well as dance and gymnastics.

Our Hall board is now decorated with a Dick Bruna style Nativity Scene, which sets the scene well for our Christmas Play, "The Little Blue Star."

We have been busily sorting Choir costumes, for our older children, this week, and making plans for the decorations in the hall. Younger children have been allocated parts in the play: "Little Blue Star," and are excitedly practising words and songs.

This week younger children have been investigating changes in materials. Did anyone spot "bubbles" flying over Eaton Bray, on Thursday?! Others have been investigating "Pop Art"... look out for their ladybird collage, by the new room.

We now have new furniture in our library - the favourite so far, being the lovely, green sofa. There are new lilac trolleys, for display books, and red trolleys for both children's and adults' lending library, which will be run by the School Council.

The theme in our corridor this year, will be "Dick Whittington," due to our Milton Keynes pantomime link... so look out for "hungry cat" and scampering mice!

Everyone has returned to School after a refreshing half-term break, so now it is full speed ahead to Christmas!

This year, our Hamsters will perform to parents, on their spacial party day. Younger foundation and KS1 children will present "Little Blue Star," whilst KS2 children will form EBLS "Simply Red" Choir. As always, we endeavour to deliver something new and exciting.

This week, younger children have been visiting places at home and abroad, including "Rosie's Farm, Central London and Lapland. They were even surprised by a visit from Father Christmas!

Older children made Venetian Masks, and Italian Opera was heard resounding round our new "Ladybird" dome.

Next item on our busy agenda is to decorate the School, in the theme of our pantomime visit, "Dick Whittington." Oh yes it is....!!

As we ease our way into half term, this is some of the exciting things we have been doing this week at Eaton Bray Lower School.

On Wednesday, Hamsters Class went to story telling land on a magic carpet... they were lucky enough to have a storyteller come in to visit who entertained our youngest children with wonderful tales from her own imagination. The children were spellbound!

On Thursday, Badgers Class had a fantastic day out at Hampton Court.

Here is a report of the day from one of our Year 4s:

Our Day at Hampton Court Palace

When we arrived everybody was excited. We went to the Chapel and we were not allowed to take pictures or talk. The lady that was there told us to sit down and look at the ceiling. Then she said "Would any of you like to ask questions?" Nobody did, then she told us "Jane Seymour's heart is under the cloth!" This is because she died and Henry VIII loved her so much. After that we went to Henry's apartment. We visited a man dressed as Henry VIII and another man behind him. One of the girls took a picture of the man and the man bent down and made a weird face at her! We went to our lunch room. We only had twenty minutes for lunch then we went to the gift shop and I bought a quill, a rubber and a pen. Lastly we went on the coach. It took about two hours thirty minutes to get back to school.

Well, another busy week has flown by. On Wednesday, a science expert demonstrated experiments in an extremely humorous manner. "How could eyes be closed, and bright flashes of light observed...?" It was a lovely, lively start to the day.

On Thursday the children's art work was displayed in the Hall, which was bulging with parents, at 3.30pm. The comments were very positive, and parents seemed delighted to purchase samples of their children's artwork.

Rabbits have been "lighting up" their classroom, and investigating circuits. I think quite a few now feel they would like to be electricians!

Squirrels and Otters have been investigating "Special Times", and produced some attractive Seder plates of food, henna hand prints and cards for Eid and Diwali.

Hedgehogs say they have been working on 2D shapes... but when observed seemed to be tasting crispy bites... in a variety of shapes though, which could only be eaten once the properties had been listed!

Badgers have been creating elaborate Rangoli patterns this week, and also looking at fables during literacy. They are very much looking forward to their trip to Hampton court next week.

Next Tuesday, there is a Sharing Assembly, when children share their achievements in the School Hall. Friday is a closure day, and the following week is half term, returning on 2nd November. Enjoy the "rest!"

Our Artwork Collection has been collected for framing, and will be on view on Thursday in the School Hall, after School. Do come along and enjoy the children's lovely artistic efforts - the range of themes is varied and exciting. Remember... you may purchase the pictures, which would make a lovely gift for Christmas.

On Friday the new School Council met for the first time, to discuss plans for the future.

Next Wednesday there is a visiting scientist, who will be giving a talk and demonstration.

Consultation Evening is on 18th October, from 5.30 - 7.30pm. Children's work will be on display and teachers will have set appointments in the Hall, should there be any queries or worries. Children are not encouraged to attend.

Year four children had a visit to a Middle School, and returned with delicious home-made pizzas. On Wednesday, Badgers went on an interesting walk around the local area.

Our Pre-School children have been learning about shapes this week, and discovering stories and songs about different shapes. A particular favourite was "The Queen of Hearts", and our Hamsters had lots of fun making their own crowns adorned with hearts that they were able to wear home!

Henrietta, Florence and Rosie's eggs are for sale, so please ask if you require some for tea!

September has flown by, as we have all been extremely busy having fun and working hard. Our art pictures are almost ready to be framed, so start saving up so that you can purchase your child's work of art. The pictures will be beautifully framed, and would make ideal Christmas gifts!

Our Quiz Night on Saturday was a tremendous success. Thanks to all who helped to organise this event.

Now, on to the subject of food! The children have been treated to delicious chocolate cake at lunch. You are now probably remarking, "I thought Eaton Bray was a Healthy School." Well, the secret ingredient was beetroot... and the children loved it!

On Tuesday mornings, Hamsters have been enjoying a "Sounds Like Fun" music session with the "Music Man" from Bedfordshire Music. They have been using instruments, singing songs and playing music games. It certainly does sound like fun!

In the Main School this week, our younger children have been travelling the World with Barnaby Bear. On Thursday, Squirrels went to India on a plane, for an early Diwali celebration. That is why there were tea lights in the classroom instead of electric lights, as the children decorated the room and pathways with Rangoli patterns.

Rabbits have been exploring Aboriginal art, whilst closer to home, older children have been exploring the School grounds, with a visiting expert from the Greensand Trust.

This week some of us have been participating in our first Sharing Assembly of the new School year. Children shared their successes and achievements with their families and other children and staff. Well done to all involved!

Some of us have been working on our art pictures for the gallery next month, so save your pennies parents, as they will be for sale, in the School Hall soon. Watch this space for exact details.

Our allotment has been diligently watered and turned over, then planted with winter cabbage, garlic and onions. At the beginning of the week the children had the opportunity to try crisps in School... beetroot flavoured of course! Our clever cook found a novel way of encouraging the children to eat beetroot... they were Simply Red... and Simply Delicious!!

Crops of potatoes, beans, peas, tomatoes, red onions and carrots have been served in School dinners, and the children have voted them "the tastiest ever!"

This week there have been wonderful aromas circulating around our School... from plaster drying to fruit salad and vegetable soup! (Nothing like variety.) Otters had fun using a special pineapple corer, while Squirrels made delicious vegetable soup which our Cook declared was "the best I've ever tasted!" Praise indeed! Perhaps we should look into marketing it, to raise some funds. Whilst on the subject of fundraising, may it be possible for more parents out there to help with HSA activities PLEASE.

Hedgehogs have been having fun with bubble painting this week - with wonderful artistic results. Rabbits have been investigating Leonardo Da Vinci, and enjoying making the "Mona Lisa" and experimental flying machines! Badgers have been thinking about Australia and looking at Aboriginal art, which they have used as inspiration for their own fabulous pieces of art.

Our hens are still producing eggs, so do call at the office, if you wish to purchase these special fresh eggs.

Welcome back everybody - Hamsters, Hedgehogs, Otters, Squirrels, Rabbits and Badgers!

This half term, the children will be producing a piece of artwork, which will be framed and displayed for sale, in the School hall, on the 14th October, from 3.30pm - 4.30pm. They would look equally good displayed at home, or would make a lovely Christmas gift - so keep that date free.

Another date for your diaries is 13th September at 7pm, when the HSA hold their Annual General Meeting.

This week has been a little scary, due to an extra "skeleton" person, in Squirrels, nicknamed "Funnybones". Otters have visited the Trim Trail, for a sensory walk. Rabbits have produced enormous collage flowers, which will decorate their new room. Badgers have had an exciting visitor from Africa, discovering what life is like for children in Eaton Bray.

Many new children have started in Hamsters, and are enjoying participating in a wealth of new experiences. There is a new story house, where books can be shared, as well as a performing dance stage!

We are adding the "finishing touches" to our Carnival Float entry, based on the theme of "Inventions". Hopefully Saturday will be warm and dry, and a happy occasion for all participants. As a School, we have contributed to a large "jig-saw" picture, which will be on display on Saturday. Do come along and see our art work in the finished product.

Our foundation topics this week have been geography, or design and technology. Rabbits children have made puppets which will be used in English as the characters for play scripts. They also made a lava lamp, which was quite magical. Younger children have been "shopping", and enjoyed making a shop of their choice that would be beneficial to the local community... so we await a pet shop / toy shop / antique shop / jewellery shop / sports shop / party shop / charity shop!

We ate our first home grown strawberries - the tastiest berries ever, we decided!

Younger children have set up butterfly houses, and when we each have a butterfly, we will dress up in bright clothes and butterfly wings and release our fluttering friends!

The end of a lovely, warm week, that, as usual, has been busy and exciting. Key Stage Two children enjoyed their last cooling swimming lesson, as England scored a goal! Foundation topic has been art, and now the "builders" boards are bright and colourful... adorned with gigantic collage flowers, and winged creatures that glitter and twinkle.

Some of our children have had the opportunity to visit their Middle Schools, and discover what life will be like in September, when they have moved on to pastures new.

Our hanging baskets and floral borders have "filled out" well and provide lovely splashes of colour around the School. The kitchen is being supplied with salad herbs and lettuce - imagine... picked one minute and eaten the next! On Wednesday, some parents visited for lunch, and had the treat of Yorkshire puddings made with eggs from Florence, Henrietta and Rosie!

This week, last minute preparations have been done, ready for our annual Summer Fair on Saturday. Please try to come along and share in all the fun, from 12.00 to 2.30pm. Food will be available, so cooking can be avoided this weekend, as well as considering how to occupy the children!

On Tuesday, we had a Sharing Assembly, where children from all classes talked about special work, from wood sculpture to knowing one hundred key words.

We have discovered gradually that Henrietta, Florence and Rosie enjoy eating fruit - their favourites are grapes and peaches!

This week our foundation subject has been history. An army of wounded soldiers limped into Scatari Hospital to be treated by Florence Nightingale and her nurses. Oh, don;'t worry if you have heard squeaking in School... it's only the rats from the hospital... artificial, of course!

During the holiday week, our Pre-School playground was painted with "shape and colour" train tracks, and a number snake. The children have enjoyed playing on the new additions. A new herb and sensory garden has been established, and is proving popular with little hands and noses!

The new classroom walls are getting higher each day - watch this space to find out when the ladybird roof is fitted.

This week, the children have participated in cricket, tennis and soccer. Relay training will be starting next week, and the "broom handle" batons are ready and waiting. Our grounds are being prepared for Open Gardens on Sunday. Hedges and grass are ship-shape, and borders and baskets are blooming, so do come along between 12 and 5pm, and enjoy a relaxing cream tea.

On Friday we turned green - no, not with envy, but for "Green day". Incorporated in the day: Scarecrow Making / Recycled Clothes / Fashion Show / Nature Trail / Statistics / Super Heroes!

A beautiful week weather wise, making our outdoor activities very pleasurable - tennis, soccer, cricket, marathon training and lacrosse.

We have also been outdoors, dismantling the library garden and pergola, in preparation for our new classroom, which starts being built next week. The plants have been moved to a new border, by the shelter, so nothing has been wasted. Wood from the pergola will be made into additional allotments and rustic benches. Our allotment is thriving, and this week the children planted out sweetcorn, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and tomatoes. On arrival at the main entrance, there are fresh bright hanging baskets, already dripping with colour.

Our hens have settled in well, and it seems that Henrietta is the boss... so do behave Rosie and Florence! We have discovered that they don't like wholemeal bread, but they are rather partial to grapes.

This week our foundation focus has been art. Younger children have been looking at sculpture by Henry Moore, and had fun with various media, from newspaper to wood and clay. Older children have been studying birds, and had a lovely time in our outdoor classroom, sketching. We have all made contributions to the School Float, which is well under way. Please come along and help on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, upstairs in the Pre-School building.

On Monday we held our "Egg Auction", and have since had "feedback" of double yolks and extra tasty eggs. Well done to Henrietta, Rosie and Florence!

Tuesday morning was started with our Sharing Assembly, when children from each class celebrated their success with parents and friends. Hamsters' puppet show provided the finale.

Wednesday afternoon went swimmingly for our year three and four children who visited Tiddenfoot Pool in Leighton Buzzard.

We had a second wonderful visit from an extremely kind Muslim parent, who shared artifacts and food with us. The spicier foods were washed down with delicious, cool mango juice. A big thank you from us all!

During Friday's Choices, some children had a demonstration of how to use a selection of tools to make our own name plaques, for the chickens. The children had the unique idea of displaying photographs and information in CD cases, which will then be mounted and painted on painted and varnished plaques. The favourite part was sand papering the rough edges. Look out for them by the chicken run soon.

Election week is here... our three "ladies" have names! The chickens are now christened: Rosie, Henrietta and Florence. Rosie has a bright red beak; Henrietta has lots of black tail feathers; Florence has a "beauty spot" on her cheek! Their first box of eggs will be auctioned in the School playground on Monday afternoon, so do come along and bid. Our School Council members will be organising the distribution of the eggs and will request donations towards the cost of feeding and maintaining our feathered friends. Some eggs will go to our School cook, who will prepare delicious main courses and desserts requiring eggs.

This week some of us went to India with Barnaby Bear and his "bear" friends. We visited a tea plantation, a sari shop, and a music shop.

We were privileged to have a visitor to talk about Muslim culture, and tasted lots of delicious food, kindly prepared and provided by our guest. MANY THANKS!

Next Tuesday we will have our first Sharing Time of this term in the School hall. On Wednesday KS2 pupils will begin swimming lessons.

This week Hedgehogs and Squirrels have been investigating the topic of "Sound". The children enjoyed making music with instruments that they had made, ranging from guitars to drums and shakers.

Rabbits Class have been to space! They have made a 3D display of planets that is very informative. Badgers Class have been finding out about bones and muscles. In Pre-School, Hamsters have been sharing lots of new books about firemen and their engines.

Our allotment has been planted with a variety of vegetables, that will be used in the School kitchen. Some shoots are peeping through already, thanks to the warmer weather. We are hoping for a bumper crop of strawberries this year, as we have several containers with healthy plants.

The chickens are settling in well, and seem to be very happy in their new environment. Each day, children from different classes tend to them, and gather the eggs. Names for them will be announced soon, as the children have held their own voting ballot - much more "eggciting" than a political one!

Hope everyone had an enjoyable "break" - not just when cracking open Easter eggs... and talking about eggs... we now have three hens (watch this space for their names - the children are voting in their very own "General Election" voting booths).

We also have two new members of staff in the Pre-School this term, so a very warm welcome to them both.

On Friday we started a new round of "Choices" topics, including pond party / hen house help etc. Hopefully everyone will enjoy what they choose for this half term.

Our allotment is beginning to flourish again, and fruit and vegetables are beginning to pop through the soil. Our school cook is planning to use the produce in her delicious meals - what fun to eat what we grow. This term we will also supply the kitchen with some fresh eggs. You will be able to take a box of eggs home too, when the hens begin laying.

It has been a sporty week this week!

The Year 4s have been training younger children in the art of cup stacking.

We also entered our first tag rugby tournament on Thursday, which took place at Dunstable Rugby Club. Our team played very well, and came fourth.

Then on Friday, Rabbits Class joined the Sports Relief marathon run in Leighton Buzzard. Watch out for us at the Olympics!

This week we held a Sharing Assembly in the Hall, to celebrate children's achievements over the last couple of weeks. The children have also produced science inventions for Science Week. The winning entries were as follows:

Hedgehogs: A chair to help disabled children.

Squirrels: A phone that translates all languages.

Rabbits: A recycling machine.

Badgers: "The Reversinater" - a machine with a button that undoes your last action.

On Friday we had a Mother's Day Sale, when children could purchase a "secret" gift for their Mum. The choice of gifts was wonderful, and the children found it hard to choose, as all were very appealing. Hope all you Mums out there are pleased on Sunday morning!

Our hen house has been erected, and will remain safely indoors until required by its residents! (Watch this space...)

We started the week with a very exciting Monday. It was our "World Book Day" celebration day, when children and staff dressed as characters from books by their favourite authors (Pat Hutchings / Allan Ahlberg / Roald Dahl.) Costumes ranged from "magnificent Matildas" to "cunning cops" and "roughish robbers!"

Our "Mike the Engine" and its station are now officially opened and in use. Here's hoping our trains are punctual!!

Next week we are celebrating Science week, by having a display of inventions from all the classes, which will be judged by a surprise visitor. (A prize for the winner in each class.) There will also be a Sharing Time on Tuesday.

The children are keeping fit with tennis / soccer / tag rugby sessions, on a regular basis.

Don't read further if you are a MUM!! Children may purchase gifts next week, in School, for their Mums - in Nursery until Thursday, and on Friday for main School.

This half term is going to be very busy and exciting, as there are a number of special occasions. We are having our World Book Day on Monday 1st March, when staff and pupils will dress as characters from favourite books. Each class has voted for their favourite author: Hamsters - Nick Sharratt; Hedgehogs - Pat Hutchings; Squirrles - Janet and Allan Ahlberg; Rabbits and Badgers: Roald Dahl. Look out for photographs in the newspapers!

Whilst the photographers are in School, they are also going to capture the formal opening of "Eaton Bray Station", when Mike the Engine will be officially christened. The station clock is now ticking away on the platform, until it reaches 10am on Monday, when our children will be able to board - probably the strangest mixture of passengers ever, as they will probably range from "Cops and Robbers" to "Oompa Loompas!"

There are also visiting specialists for piano/violin/tennis/soccer and tag rugby scheduled.

During the week beginning 8th March, there will be opportunities to purchase gifts for Mother's Day / a Sharing Assembly to celebrate achievements and a Science Invention competition, with a prize for the winning entry in each class.

As we rapidly approach half term, here are just a few of the exciting things we have done this week:

Homework Club: This runs three times a week at lunch times. The children love to come along, and enjoy drawing, reading, playing games and other indoor activities. They often appreciate a change from outdoor play, especially at this very cold time of year!

Monday: History Day

Everyone looked marvellous and had put a lot of effort into their costumes. We had a wonderful day, with a very interesting talk about medieval life, from a visiting historian, who brought along examples of tools, weapons and toys that people would have used in those long ago times.

Tuesday: Cookery Demonstration

Part of the first prize for our winning entry in a competition. We enjoyed fruit smoothies and stir fry tasting.

Wednesday: "Mike" the Engine!

Hamsters have christened their new engine "Mike". He had his face painted today... (photos to follow!)

Thursday: World Book Day plans

Each class has announced its chosen author, so that costumes can be planned for 1st March.

Friday: Sy Mary's Village Carnival plans

STOP PRESS 1: OUR CHINESE DRAGON IN RABBITS CLASS SEEMS TO HAVE PRODUCED MINI DRAGONS OUTSIDE HEDGEHOGS CLASS. WHAT IS HAPPENING??? (I wonder if our little Hedgehog know anything about this!)

We have all been very busy this week, decorating the corridors and classrooms. Displays range from: elegant peacock / castle ramparts and coats of arms / Tocuaro masks and sock puppets. Visitors this week have commented on how bright and interesting our displays are.

If you would like to see the gardens we designed and planted for St Mary's Church, there are detailed plans and photographs by the entrance. It shows an amazing transformation which was well worth the effort.

Our School cook won first prize for "Bedfordshire Cook of the Year", with our emphasis this year on growing our own produce. We made a mini allotment which was planted up with herbs and vegetables, which made a big impact on the judges. Look out for photos in the local newspapers, and interviews on the radio. Next Tuesday, there is a demonstration for our children, by a member of Eden Foods. The recipes will include smoothies and stir fries, so we look forward to a "tasty" day.

Remember, Monday 8th February is History Day, when all children and staff will dress as Kings and Queens.

On Tuesday this week, we held our first Sharing Assembly of the New Year. We celebrated the successes of children from all classes - and were even joined by a magnificent Chinese dragon, complete with sheepskin eye lashes and beard!

Wednesday was disco day, when most of our children "danced the night away." They had a delicious tea, and I'm sure slept very well that night, as did the adults, who put in much forward planning enabling the event to run so smoothly. Thank you to all who helped.

Our Healthy Schools inspectors visited on Thursday, and were most impressed with their tour of the whole School. They were chaperoned by members of the School Council, and were impressed by all areas visited. They were especially impressed by the changes made over the last couple of years. It wasn't until we came to list them, that we realised just how how much has been achieved by our hard working dedicated members of staff, who give up much of their "free" time, to make our School so welcoming to all. Aren't we lucky!!

A new edition, is the "E.B.L.S. Station", to be located in the Nursery. If you want to see the station plan, please take a look at the information boards beside the platform area. We are planning a grand opening in the not too distant future. If anyone out there has any artifacts (eg. bell / tickets / ticket machine / clock) they would be most welcome.

Doesn't it seem strange to have had a "snow free" week! We can now see our bulbs in the entrance gardens peeping through, and enjoying a little bit of colour from the pansies in pots.

This week, younger children have focused on printing, linked to flowers and ... can you believe it ... BREAD!! It's amazing how well a slice of bread can make a print on paper. Older children have completed their art work, culminating in a Chinese Dragon parading in and out the classrooms, to the delight of both children and adults. It will be suspended from Rabbits Class ceiling, next week, so look out for those sheepskin eyebrows and sharp teeth.

Our School has won a Healthy Schools Competition, and we are looking forward to the prize which consists of cookery demonstrations, for all, from smoothies to stir fries! You children may be treating you to dinner soon.)

The next special event is History Day, on the eighth of February, when a historian will visit, with a selection of medieval artifacts for us all to investigate. On this occasion we will all be dressed as kings or queens, so Eaton Bray will be very regal next month.

Welcome to 2010!

We have had an unexpected snowy return to School, and been thoroughly tested by the wintry weather. The children have made wonderful snow sculptures, and even made an ice fort. The team work was impressive!

We returned to School last week and finished the end of the week with a visit to Milton Keynes Pantomime (Cinderella). Everyone who went had an enjoyable time, and we all felt the benefits of the laughter.

Our Foundation topic this week has been Science, with work on "Light and Dark", and "Forces". Rabbits Class have been investigating Chinese Art and have made fans and lanterns, with floral decorations. Their Science week will be later in the term, to coincide with a visiting scientist, who will work on "Parachutes and Flight" with those children.

Later in the term, we are holding a history day, when staff and children will transpose themselves into kings or queens for the day. Watch this space for updates!

The penultimate week before our Christmas break has flown by. Our School is looking bright and cheerful, with a lot of glitter and sparkle - due to our "Cinderella" pantomime theme. (We are going to Milton Keynes Theatre in the beginning of January to see the pantomime "Cinderella")

St Mary's Church was packed on Monday evening, as we entertained hundreds to a musical, mince pie soiree. We have had rave reviews! Father Christmas made a surprise visit and left chocolate treats for the children.

On Thursday, we had a science visitor for the morning, who worked with Badgers Class on "Slime and Gloop", as this week we have been investigating changing materials.

Our last Choices for this term will be on Friday, and we will have a new selection to choose from next year.

This week, we have had lots of visitors, from very young to rather elderly. On Monday afternoon, there was an "Induction Afternoon", for Hamsters, and on Wednesday, a Christmas tea party for about thirty elderly citizens. They were entertained with singing / recorders / piano recital, and the afternoon culminated with a delicious tea, and tour of our lovely School. Badgers acted as tour guides, and answered the many questions, as well as acting as waiters and waitresses.

Congratulations to some children in Rabbits Class, who have won a prize in a poetry competition. They entered shape poems, and worked very hard on the original content and layouts.

Our afternoon focus this week has been religious education. Squirrels had a journey to Bethlehem, with Mary and Joseph leading the way, accompanied by a musical tribe! Hedgehogs were amazed as we passed through their room, and made favourable remarks about the costumes. Rabbits used their imagination to invent a new celebration day, whilst Badgers thought about the meaning behind stained glass windows, even designing their own unique ones.

On Friday we held a final rehearsal in the Church, where we saw the lovely new plaque in the garden that we designed and created. Do come along next Monday to St Mary's at 6 o'clock, and join us for a musical extravaganza!

This week we have been host to a pupil on work experience. It's been a great help to have an extra pair of hands at this busy time of year.

On Monday, we had a governor's visit, when we shared our art work. We did check before he left that we had not adorned him with glitter or glue. To the children's delight, they saw that his suit jacket's lining was purple, and of course imagined that the Fairy Godmother's magic had worked on our visitor too!!

Badgers have compiled an end of day thank you verse, and the most popular word was... "dynamite!" Everyone was impressed by the standard of ICT shown in the borders and pictures. A big thank you.

The children have been frequenting the Church and its grounds this week. On Thursday, a group of children helped to plant out the large flower beds on either side of the main entrance door. Please do give the areas a glance, on your next visit - a wonderful job done by many pairs of willing, hard working hands. we will be putting up a plaque, explaining that our School designed and planted up the gardens.

The Church was busy on Friday, when we went along for a practice, in preparation for our Service, on Monday 7th December, at 6 o'clock. Do come along and join in with our "Christmas Cheer". There will be singing / instrumentals / mince pies / wine / children's treats... and SANTA!!

We have been finalising details for our Christmas gathering in St Mary's Church, on Monday 7th December, at 6 o'clock. Please come along with your children, and join us in a musical, mince pie and mystery extravaganza! (Don't worry children there will be juice and biscuits for you!) Our school has volunteered to help design and create two new gardens in the Church grounds. Work has begun, involving box hedging, lavender and bulbs. Please admire it as you pass on your way on the 7th December, and pause to consider all the hard work and dedication of our children, and a willing adult gardener. It's so nice to help and put ideas into reality, in a short period of time.

On Thursday there was a Fashion Show, in the hall. Thanks to all our models, who looked very professional as they "strutted their stuff".

Foundation topic this week has been design and technology. The children have enjoyed making Christmas cards / calendars and gifts. Squirrels have made salt dough tree decorations, Rabbits have made velvet Christmas stockings, with sewn on applique. Hedgehogs have transformed their entrance into Cinderella and Prince Charming's palace. They are planning the room where the wedding feast will be eaten, so look out for some delicious plates of tasty food!

Our Foundation subject this week has been history. Hedgehogs and Squirrels have been investigating old houses. Squirrels made "wattle and daub" mix (shhh.... the ingredients were animal dung(!) / clay / sand / chalk). We also had a new "pupil" called Shaun, who turned out to be a friend of "Wallace and Gromit". He relaxed on a warm, pink electric blanket, as we investigated bed warmers through the ages!

Rabbits went back to Tudor times, and made and tasted pottage and jelly, which they decided was the tastiest food they had consumed! (Sorry all Mums out there, who slave away over home cooked meals.)

Badgers went back to Victorian times, and rearranged the tables in their classroom into formal rows, where they had to sit boy next to girl. They learnt all about how much stricter schools were in those days, and were quite pleased to return to the good old 21st Century at the end of the afternoon!

Next week, there is a "Fashion Show" in our hall on Thursday. Do come along, and treat yourself to a new outfit for Christmas!!

Welcome back everybody!

This week Staff had a morning of "Fire Training", so if anyone saw flames in the playground, don't panic, we efficiently used the hoses and fire blankets!!

On Wednesday we had a Governor visit, focusing on Literacy. The children enjoyed sharing ERR sessions / direct speech / report writing techniques.

Our photographer came to School on Thursday and Friday, so the hall was full of extremely happy faces!

We are beginning to think about Christmas, and our children are already practising songs, in preparation for our whole School visit to St Mary's Church, in December. It should be a very special Christmas evening for all parents and children who join us.

This week we have also been planning the layout for two special flower beds, by the entrance to the Church. Our School is going to plan, plant and persevere with their ongoing maintenance. Watch this space for more details!

Netball, soccer and tennis have all been enjoyed by some of our children this week. Our new netball court is also well used at lunch times, with enthusiastic participation from all classes.

This week we have been planting our orchard - do enjoy looking at our apple, pear and quince trees by the pond. Children from all classes helped, and were amazed to note that the depth of the holes was greater than the height of a Hedgehog!

Our new games room has been delivered and is about to be built, ready for use next half term. It will be "home" for our large snooker table, and a selection of smaller games.

The foundation subject this week has been design and technology. Rabbits children used a variety of woodwork tools to create something rather special... they loved the new "3D spectacles." Younger children made homes from a selection of boxes and materials. there hasn't been much "room" in Squirrels this week! Hedgehogs has a wonderful aroma, from the lovely lavender branches dangling across the room. A different aroma came from Badgers, due to the fillings from the delicious sandwiches they made.

On Wednesday our new netball court was christened! The children have grasped the rules easily, and are sharing tremendous enthusiasm for their new sport. Friday is the day for tennis and soccer, which means an active end to the week, for some children.

This week our foundation focus has been history. Younger children have been living in years gone by, working by candlelight, and "beating" the carpets. None were keen to investigate the chamber pots very thoroughly! Rabbits have been learning about historic figures including Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale, and Badgers have been learning about Victorian times, writing postcards home as if they were Victorian children, and investigating the designs of William Morris.

The H.S.A. had their Annual General Meeting on Monday, when a new committee was elected. Leaving chair and vice chair had beautiful exotic bouquets, and it was sad to see them depart.

Our orchard will be planted this week, and next week, and will be followed by an official opening ceremony, when plaques will be displayed.

Another busy week has flown by. On Wednesday KS2 pupils were coached in netball, and quickly grasped the rules. We are hoping to paint our own netball court on the playground next week - weather permitting!

On Friday, our week ended with "Jeans for Genes Day", when the children wore denim for the day, and contributed to our collection for this worthy cause.

The foundation subject this week has been art. Younger children became Klee and Kandinsky as they investigated circles, spirals and spheres. They studied the inside and outside of fruits and vegetables, and agreed that they liked the smell of the red cabbage best, while the red onion made them tearful! Older children considered emerging forms, and linked their collage and sculpture to their non-fiction literacy theme of "Big Cats". You wouldn't believe what emerged from lions' mouths!!

On Monday we will be holding our A.G.M for the H.S.A. Please come along and give support.

Another week has flown by! On Tuesday, we had a Sharing Assembly in the hall, when parents celebrated their children's achievements. How many of you noticed our lovely new hall curtains and decorations? Yes they are wonderful!

Our foundation topic this week has been Religious Education. Younger children have been thinking about the topic, "Ourselves", and have made "Feeling Trees". Older children have been studying symbols of faith, looking particularly at the Jewish religion, and have tasted matzvah, which is the unleavened bread eaten during Passover.

Tuesday lunchtime was reserved for orienteering outdoors.

On Wednesday we had a visiting P.E. specialist, who worked with the older children.

We also have weekly visits from musicians, who visit our Nursery and KS2 children, who are having a "brass band" experience.

Our next additions are to be a stage, in the Nursery, where children can perform and entertain audiences. The Nursery children are also going to benefit from a railway station... watch this space for "E.B.L.S. Station news updates!

Another week has flown by! Our afternoons this week have been dedicated to Science. Younger children have investigated the topic "Ourselves" and enjoyed making "Funnybones" skeletons, and discovering their five senses. Older children studied shadows - explaining why our lovely hall was "blacked out".

On Tuesday we had a special orienteering visitor, who kindly mapped out our grounds, in preparation for our new Orienteering Club, at lunch times. Our new playground markings now boast a large clock and compass. We have a "giant" set of wooden clock hands (on casters, of course, for making the time tick by quickly), which will be used for telling the time activities, when we visit our "Time" topic.

We have also decided to include pear trees in our new orchard, so that our wonderful cook can extend her range of fruity desserts even further. Another project is now in the final stages of planning, as we have been "hatching" final ideas this week, for our chicken coop. Watch this space, for news of the first EBLS egg!

On Friday, the whole School went on a bug hunt in the grounds, and also helped to raise a donation for the Wildlife Trust. Thank you to all who contributed.

Hello!

We returned at the end of last week to find that many exciting additions and changes have been made to our wonderful, bustling School. Outdoors, we have a new red "sail" in the Nursery, providing shade and shelter, from the elements. The playground looks very smart, with a range of new playground markings. Indoors, our large Hall has been revamped, with fresh, bright paint and sets of vibrant patchwork curtains. Watch this space for news about EBLS Station, to be situated in the Nursery Playground; chicken run; apple orchard, by our existing allotment.

On Wednesday, we had our first Governors' Meeting of the new academic year, when we welcomed a new Chair of Governors.

This week our foundation topic has been geography. The younger children enjoyed delivering the mail, transported on a big red tricycle. Older children have been investing seasides at home and abroad, and were treated to a tropical fruit meal, when they even tasted dragon fruit - they agreed that they looked more appealing than they tasted!

On Friday, there was a "Bugs Assembly" in the hall, to be followed next week by an outdoor "Bug Hunt".

"Avast, me hearties!" We all had a wonderful day at the village carnival on Saturday, and our School float, decked out like a pirate ship looked truly splendid. Everything was "ship shape" as we weighed anchor and it was "plain sailing" through Eaton Bray to Edlesborough Village Green where much fun was to be had by all. What a great day!

This week, we held an "Open Evening", when the children showed their work, in a celebration of their great achievements over the past year. Well done everyone!

On Tuesday, there was a "Leavers' Tea and Tour", when our year four children entertained their parents and relations, to a walk down memory lane, with colourful memory books that they had made themselves. They had home made teapot biscuits, chocolate brownies and some yummy farewell sponge cakes. We wish them all the best at their Middle Schools. WE WILL MISS YOU!

On Friday, our younger children released their butterflies. The children dressed in bright colours and some wore butterfly wings. we shared our fruit on the field, as we said our farewells to our precious "fluttering friends."

A busy time, as the end of the Summer Term looms closer, to be followed hopefully by a relaxing holiday for all.

This week key stage one children took their bears on a plane journey to Spain, which included flamenco dancing, accompanied by castanets and Spanish guitar, as well as breaks for refreshments at the orange and lemon groves! (Some children said "This is the best orange juice ever!") It was the ideal opportunity to make fans, to combat both the heat here and in Spain!

Older children have been investigating the rain forest, with its many layers, which provided background knowledge for their geography topic.

P.E. activities this week have included swimming, tag rugby, and multi skills.

This week the children have tucked into new potatoes and potato salad, thanks to our crop of "wonders" from our allotment. The children love watering and have been amazed to discover how much water one pumpkin or hanging basket can absorb.

Another busy week! Tuesday was a day of adventure for our older children who went to Totternhoe School, for an extra-curricular netball afternoon. On Tuesday morning, we had our last Sharing Assembly for this term and celebrated it with Wallace and Gromit! It was lovely to see so many boys who had been helpful at tidying up, and being pleasant, in general.

Our key stage one pupils played tag rugby, and also had multi-skills and tennis lessons. Swimming for our older children provided a welcome "cooling" lesson in the pool.

In Foundation topic this week, there have been an array of "emerging forms", ranging from butterflies to elephants!

Our allotment lettuces are now providing the basis for School salads, and we await the ripening of our tomatoes. The children's verdict on the cabbages and beans was unanimously "delicious!"

Next week, we are holding a Sponsored Walk, so please sponsor generously. The money will go towards playground markings and games. Plans for both School and Nursery playgrounds are practically complete, and hopefully we will return in September to lots of new treats.

On Saturday 4th July, our School will participate in the Three Villages Carnival procession, and our float pictures etc are almost complete. Do come along and see us in all our splendour - no more can be said, as we aim to surprise you all, on the day.

This week has seemed extra long, probably due to the fact that last week end was very busy - Summer Fair, on Saturday, and Open Gardens on Sunday! Our Fair was well attended, and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable time. We were flattered by the lovely positive comments about our grounds and School, and are already considering what our next project will be. Some of the gentlemen visitors wanted to know how our onions and cabbages are so big! Cabbages, beans, herbs and strawberries have been picked, and used in School dinners this week. On Thursday, we had a "lunch for Dads", to celebrate Father's Day.

Tuesday was a busy day, with interviews for two new members of staff in the morning. The afternoon was busy too, involving a dash to "Tiggywinkles" wildlife hospital, with a dehydrated hedgehog found in our grounds. Thanks you to our School secretary, who will keep us updated with the hedgehog's progress.

Our key stage two pupils have participated in netball and swimming this week, whilst our key stage one pupils have experienced ball skills, tennis and tag rugby.

The foundation topics this week have been art or design and technology. Key stage one pupils have investigated natural objects, and went for a "Leaf Walk" which incorporated gathering natural objects on their green leaves. Key stage two pupils have been making gifts for guests at their Tea and Tour afternoon, for Leavers' parents. (TOP SECRET, SO NO MORE DETAILS!)

On Friday we held "Bring A Bear Day", and collected a substantial amount for Charity. Also on Friday, we had a specialist soccer instructor, to give information about possible sessions next term. So all in all, we're "on the ball!"

On Tuesday, four Parish Councillors visited our School, and had a lengthy tour, encompassing both buildings and grounds. They were impressed by our thriving allotment; newly refurbished pond; bird hide; and wonderful gardens. We have two new additions to our School - Barry and Betty, our sculpture snails, designed and made by Badgers class! If you come along to "Open Gardens", on Sunday 14th June, between 12 o'clock and 5 o'clock, you will be able to meet the snails personally, and experience our immaculate and colourful grounds as you tour our School. We will be serving cream teas too. Look forward to seeing you.

It will be a hectic weekend, as our Summer Fayre is on Saturday 13th June, 12 - 2.30pm. come along and experience fun and games; stalls; tasty lunches and many other attractions.

Year four children had a netball session with a visiting P.E. specialist this week, and on Friday there was tennis for younger children and soccer too - what more could we offer??!!

Our afternoon topic has been science. Hedgehogs and Squirrels have been out and about in the grounds (field/gardens/pond/allotment), investigating living things. Rabbits have been looking at the human body, and discovering all about lung capacity by seeing how many breaths it took to blow up a plastic bag! Badgers have been investigating habitats for snails (no, not Barry and Betty!) It's not often that we have had dozens of snails in on e room before, but they enjoyed their brief visit and proved to be very lively!

The first week back from half term holiday has zoomed by already. Our key stage two children have been swimming, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. On Wednesday Rabbits Class had session of tag rugby, kindly run by one of our governors. The class photos have been taken, by one of our talented staff, and were able to be taken outside, thanks to the wonderfully hot start to the week.

This week our foundation subject has been history. Younger children have been investigating old toys - one of them was a bear from war time. Older children have gone back to Roman times, and even re-enacted a battle scene, on the field. A Badger surprised us all, when he walked around the School, dressed in full Roman soldier dress!

Our allotment is producing items for the School kitchen already, and so far rhubarb, herbs and strawberries have made their way into our kitchen. Do come along to Eaton Bray Open Gardens on Sunday 14th June, from 12-5.oopm, when our School will be open, and cream teas will be available. It will be a busy weekend, as on the Saturday, 12-2.30pm, we are holding our annual summer fete. There will be lots of stalls, games, barbecue and refreshments, so make a note in your diary - we would be delighted to see you. You will be impressed by our wonderful School, and be able to appreciate how much hard work everyone has put in, over the past year.

Half term is here! We have had a busy week preparing items for our School float... the theme will remain a secret! It is suffice to add that lots of paint, glue and glitter has been consumed... and time to say thank you to our very kind patient cleaner, who hoovered up bits of sparkle.

Our School corridor is now resplendent with Woburn Safari Park memories. Don't be alarmed if you spot: monkeys swinging from a rope by Badgers, moving animals by Squirrels and masks by Rabbits.

Hamsters have been investigating the five senses this week; enjoying a listening game, identifying smells such as coffee, curry powder and chocolate, and creating a "feeling" collage with materials of different textures.

The hall was very busy on Tuesday morning, when parents came along to a Sharing Assembly. There were "Bee-Bot" maps; moving animals; pop-up models; Joseph's technicolour coat and "phenomenal phonics".

On Wednesday, our year four children had a session on games with a visiting P.E. consultant.

The gardens are looking good... and we're on a countdown to "Open Garden Day", on June 14th. Please come along and enjoy a cream tea too!

"Ooh là là!" This week has been French week in Hamsters and Hedgehogs Classes.

Hamsters have enjoyed French food, French stories and songs, and with the help of a parent, have painted a wonderful Eiffel Tower on the playground.

Hedgehogs have had a French Café in their classroom, selling such delights as croissants, baguettes, gateaux and brioches! They have also played "boules" and learned to say their names and their teachers' names in French.

On Thursday, the playground was turned into the map of France, all ready for the "Tour de France!" Hedgehog children brought in bikes and scooters, and had a lovely time pedalling and scooting through the Channel Tunnel, around Paris, down to the Alps, along the Mediterranean coast, across the Pyranees, then back up the Atlantic coast! All in record time of course! C'était fantastique!

The highlight of our week was a visit from the Fire Brigade on Thursday. Year Two children had a wonderful time using the hose on the fire engine, to "wash down" our parking area. Now, lots of them want to join the fire service!

On Tuesday, our younger children put on fluorescent coats, and practised crossing safely, in the School grounds.

Our older children went to visit a mosque on Tuesday, and returned with a fund of knowledge, and with answers to their question booklets. This was the culmination of their Religious Education topic.

This week Squirrels have been investigating light and dark. They made peep-boxes, for their Squirrel models, and discovered which of the torches gave the brightest light. At the end of the topic, they made shadow puppets, and had a puppet show, using the white board. Rabbits investigated materials, and made a technicolour dream-coat, for Joseph. Badgers have enjoyed a week of planting and growing, and their room is full of "greenery" already - some edible! Hedgehogs have been making French food from salt dough - ready for their French week, next week - and mixing powder paint to make different colours.

Our bird hide has already been used by many children, and our binoculars have been in constant use. The birds seem to be getting braver, and are eating our bird cakes at a great rate. Watch this space for our next project, already in planning stage...

Another week has gone by, and the highlight was certainly our Cookery Evening on Wednesday. The event was well attended by staff and some parents. Food ranged from wraps and curry to tiramisu and banana cake, all of which was simply delicious. Everyone went home with simple tips on how to enhance food, whilst keeping to a low budget.

Our bird hide is now in full operation, and staff are just getting used to seeing binoculars peer at them, across the playground. The allotment continues to flourish, and there is always a stream of children wanting to weed and water. School's main entrance now has a pair of lovely hanging baskets, which have already been admired by visitors.

Foundation topic this week has been Religious Education. Hedgehogs and Squirrels have been thinking of Special Places, and enjoyed looking at whiteboard photos of areas in our village that are considered to be of particular interest. Rabbits have studied Creation Stories from around the World, and thought about how they could protect the planet. Badgers have been looking in depth at aspects of Muslim life. On Tuesday, they are visiting a mosque in Luton, to round off the topic.

Next week, our younger children are going to be "Stepping Out Safely", so look out for lots of fluorescent jackets on Tuesday.

During the Easter break, our School grounds have been improved even more, and outside Badgers Class, there is now a wonderful "Lollipop" Sculpture Garden, based on Kandinsky. The Library Garden now has a rainbow coloured "hoop" edging, with a gravel garden. Our School cook has already had some rhubarb from the allotment, to pop in a crumble. Inside, in our Nursery, there is now a wonderful sound proofed glass partition upstairs. Downstairs, our Nursery entrance has a magnificent garden mural, based on Hamsters hand prints. The area is also enhanced by a bright blue patio set, where visitors can rest their weary feet!

Rabbits have a new class teacher this term. They have been "Travelling the World" already, as our foundation subject this week has been geography.

Squirrels have been investigating maps and plans, and even designed their "idyllic classroom", which included an ice cream parlour and an aquarium!! "Bee-Bop" (the robot bee) now has a new grid to travel around, designed on the layout of our School, by some year two pupils. They have already shared it with younger children, who have had an exciting time, taking it from one part of our School to another.

Badgers have been studying village settlements, and had to consider the physical and human features of their ideal village.

Hedgehogs have been on safari to Tanzania, and have found out about the different animals and culture.

Next week there is a Cookery Evening in the Hall, hosted by our talented cook. The theme is "Budget Meals" - so come along for a tasty fun evening.

This week Rabbits met their new class teacher, who will be joining us in the summer term. Both parties were very excited!

We now have a bird hide in our grounds. the children will finish it off by adorning it with camouflage leaves and twigs. Thank you to our Year 4 pupil who thought of the brilliant idea! So you see, wishes do come true. we try hard to accommodate the children's ideas and hence we get enthusiasm and commitment from them.

Year Four children are busy sketching ideas for their copper sculpture, and have already thought of some wonderful original ideas. Watch this space to see which design is chosen.

Another amazing change occurred in our School on Wednesday - the P.E. cupboard was transformed into an Egyptian tomb! This explains why our head teacher shrieked in fright, as she went to set up some equipment, only to be faced by a mummified body!!

The School is full of Easter bunnies and chicks... not the fluffy varieties; just wonderful Easter card designs. On Thursday, key stage one children had an "Easter Parade" - it was like being on the set of "My Fair Lady", as the wonderful hat creations strolled by!! There is even a wonderful Easter tree in Hamster. They also now have their very own "Mud Pie Menagerie", outdoors, and indoors, they have a magnificent mural, in the entrance. It depicts a garden scene, and if you look closely, you will see that the flowers are little hand prints. well done Hamsters! We are hoping to have a patio set to complete the entrance area.

If you are a Mum, please do not read this first paragraph! On Friday, the children could purchase a gift for their Mum, to give on Mother's day. The children found it hard to choose, as there was a lovely variety of gifts - edible, jewellery, toiletries, plants - all gift-wrapped. This week, everybody has been busily making Mother's Day cards, ranging in shapes from daffodils, tea-pots, hearts and dangling beads.

Yes Mums, you may start reading from here!

Our pond is looking wonderful again. We had forgotten how large it is! Lots of the children have already visited it, and some Badgers even rescued "Brian the Frog!" The next stage is painting the fence and shelter.

Our allotment is now planted with potatoes, leeks and carrots. The children have also planted nasturtiums, as a decoy from the vegetables, for all the munching, crunching predators out there! Rhubarb and strawberries are also flourishing, and our cook is looking forward to using them in her splendid desserts. How many of you out there saw our cook on television? Yes, once again, first prize for her delicious Italian turkey main dish. Well done! Next year, she is hoping to use mostly School-grown produce, so keep up the gardening children!

And now, a warning for all the animals at Woburn Safari Park! We are all visiting at the end of term, and looking forward to producing art work related to our visit next term.
